Students are independently engaged to meet their needs and encourage creativity. We recognize the authenticity of good mental health practices in the arts. Art is produced in a non stressful but individually challenging environment.
A Few Achievements:
Students involved in ARTS programs are 3x more likely to be recognized for academic achievement, election to class office, awards for writing, awards for attendance & participation in sciences.
Arts involvement leads to better grades in classes.
Shrine Academy & HS Art students are recognized and published tri annually in Blick's Celebrating Art publication of the top 25% artwork in the country.
Academy art vocabulary and skill set prepares students for the rigor of high school art in a fluid 6-12 curriculum
Department Highlight:
A 6-12 art student will complete at least 8 career self portraits in which they learn to critique and visualize their own growth. This is also a creative timeline of their growth as an artist and individual.

Melissa Liford
My goal as an art educator is to live my passion and share it while watching student growth from 6th through 12th grade. I want to challenge and encourage students to develop into creative thinkers for our future.
Jamie Laidlaw
My goal as an art educator is to provide artistic excellence, self -esteem, and develop the creativity of each individual student within a positive atmosphere. Encouraging self-expression, I want to challenge students to reach their full artistic potential and become future artists of the world.
