Registration and Intro Week

21-25 September 2020

We are extremely excited to welcome our new cohort of students to the School of Mathematics and Statistics (SoMaS) on the 21st September 2020.

This page contains information about the events held in SoMaS, you may have other events to attend as part of main registration, or if you are on a dual degree programme. All of our events include important information for starting your studies here at Sheffield and are therefore compulsory. Please let us know (maths-engagement@sheffield.ac.uk) if there is a reason that you cannot attend.

Please see the information at the following pages [https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/registration/newstudents] for pre-arrival and registration information. There's also lots of information about your arrival, including accommodation, here [https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/autumn-term-2020].

Checklist of tasks

To help you complete the tasks required to begin your studies with us in SoMaS, we have compiled a list of pre-arrival and intro-week tasks that need completing.

You can open this via this link [https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZujcnJJkPCPM4UtLrwyqu5yZ9e3T7gMdumHo2iyiGgQ/edit?usp=sharing], or click on the version to the right here.

We recommend you make a copy of this yourself so that you can edit it and keep a record of the tasks you need to complete.

to see who we are and what we're excited to be teaching you over the next few years.

Choosing your modules

Depending on your chosen degree programme, you may need to make module selections. If you do have to choose module(s), you need to make your choices before you can register, and in early September you will be able to access a module selection task within the pre-registration system where your modules can be selected.

You can find out which courses you need to take as part of your programme on the Module Choice page, and there are short descriptions of the SoMaS courses on the Module Descriptions page. A number of our programmes feature a choice of modules (typically to the value of 20 credits) where you can either take the recommended SoMaS course that we've listed, or one of our approved "unrestricted" courses. The list of these courses is given on the Module Choice page.

Get your IT set up

Follow the guide here [https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/it-services/get-started] to get started with the online services we will be using for your digital learning this semester.

Need help obtaining equipment?

Prospective students facing difficulty in providing appropriate IT kit for study next year should be directed to the University’s IT equipment support [https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/funding/it-equipment-support] page, which provides details of the financial help available and how to apply for it.
