Leland Lesher, BA, MA, minored in Coaching at Anderson College, (now University), and began coaching football in 1976 in Clinton, IL. He began coaching girls’ basketball at the Farmington, NM Boys and Girls Club in 1978. In 1980 he was hired by Tibbetts Junior High School, Farmington, NM, in 1980 as Assistant Boys’ Basketball Coach and Assistant Track Coach in the Spring of 1981. In 1986 he was asked to coach the girls at Tibbets and spent the next twelve years coaching girls' basketball at the junior high and high school junior varsity level finishing at Sacred Heart Junior-Senior High School, East Grand Forks, MN. He took a short military break from coaching basketball while serving in Washington, DC and overseas but remained a Baseball Coach during his military career when possible. Coach Lesher returned to girls’ basketball at Viera Charter School in 2015 at the middle school assisting his daughter, a teacher and Head Girl’s Middle School Coach. He also coached the 5th and 6th grade girls at VCS. In 2016 he was hired by Edgewood Jr/Sr High as Head Middle School Girls’ Coach and Varsity Assistant Coach. In 2017 Head Coach Julia Horton resigned as Head Girls’ Basketball Coach and named Coach Lesher as her successor. In 2021 Coach Lesher became Assistant Varsity Boys’ Basketball Coach to Coach Jim Cook for one season before taking over the Merritt Island High School Girls’ Basketball Program as Head Coach in 2022.
