SGS Sixth Form College has a 'Bring Your Own Device' (BYOD) policy for all students. All students will need to bring their own laptop or tablet to support their learning, as they will likely use it in most of their lessons. While the use of devices may vary by subject, they can generally expect to use the internet for research, complete class assignments, and engage with resources in virtual platforms like Showbie or Google Classroom.
Mobile phones are not an acceptable device to support their study. Student devices will need to be covered on home insurance. They should use mobile devices and social media responsibly and follow the acceptable use agreement for digital technologies.
We have a BYOD Parent/Carer Information Handout and Policy - please refer to this especially if you are interested in ordering an ipad through the school via the Bohunt Education Trust Student iPad programme.
Students must agree to the ’Acceptable Use Agreement’ and ’Bring Your Own Device ’ policy to be able to use the school network.
As SGS uses the Google suite for many purposes, students will need to have access to the following apps on their devices/phones: Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Tasks and RD Client (for remote access). Students will also need access to Showbie in order to access lesson resources in each subject and Class Charts to monitor their attendance.
