Folders
Students are expected to have one folder per subject, which is organised into sections:
Notes for each topic
Home learning
Knowledge organisers
Assessments
Some subjects may also have subject specific sections which will be signposted clearly. Teachers will carry out folder checks throughout the year and can assist you in putting the folder together.
Students are expected to use Cornell notes as part of their studies. Cornell notes involve using a structured format which improves comprehension by actively engaging students in note taking and aids in retention by supporting review of key topics.
Students will regularly be set home learning, which can be found on classcharts. It is expected that students complete all home learning and hand it in by the deadlines set by their teachers. Students can complete home learning at any time, and may wish to use their ALH sessions to do so.
We recommend all students follow the mantra 'Prepare, Learn, Practise':
Prepare means that students should make a revision timetable and make sure they have revision checklists for each of their courses. Put simply, they need to know what they have got to revise and when they are going to revise it.
Learn means students need to spend time memorising information. They do this by summarising it, converting it into a form they find useful and by testing themselves. This is where many students find flash cards useful.
Practise means that students have to complete past exam paper questions and they then need to mark them using exam board mark schemes. They should then improve them. Students may do this ‘open book’ to start with, progressing to closed book and timed conditions as they get closer to the exams.
We expect students to spend at least an equivalent number of hours of lesson time completing revision for their subject.
