Accounting is strongly recommended for any student planning to pursue a degree in any business related field. Accounting is a fundamental block of all businesses. Having accounting skills can open doors in every industry. This course emphasizes the basic financial accounting statements. Students will be able to read, analyze and interpret financial information to make informed business decisions. This class concludes with an accounting simulation where students will apply knowledge gained to “keep the books” for a small business for one month.

Accounting II

Prerequisite: Accounting I
Accounting II takes the basics learned in Accounting I and adds real life business scenarios. Students will experience financial work dealing with depreciation, uncollectible accounts, as well as calculating earnings per share (EPS). As a project, students have the opportunity to audit and provide feedback to all student organizations on the financial condition of their books.

Cybersecurity

Cybersecurity is a comprehensive introductory course. More than just a course on “how to hack.” Students will learn cybersecurity topics such as software security, networking, system administration, the basics of cryptography and programming and a variety of essential cybersecurity tools – all the essential knowledge and skills needed to begin a future in the cyber workforce. Activities and labs are taught in a virtual lab environment where students are able to simulate real-world scenarios.

Do you want to run a business? Want to be involved in the daily decision making of a functional business? Sign up to be a manager for the ThunderZone. This class has limited enrollment. To enroll, you must have prior approval from the instructor. This project based class allows students to gain firsthand knowledge and experience in the world of marketing and business management. As a select group of student managers, these students run and manage the Seymour High School Store. Student managers also need to train and manage other student employees. In order for the business to be profitable students will have out of class commitments to ensure a successful business. Students develop the ability to forecast, develop, train, manage, and profit in a real business experience. (Students are scheduled with their supervising teacher for 1 hours of their school day.)
