Hi!  I am Heidi Couchman, and I’m excited to join the Family Liaison team this Fall, 2023.  This school year, I started my 7th year of homeschooling.  I have four kids, three of whom are school-aged (5th, 3rd, and Kinder).  I have been married to my husband, Caleb, for 13 years.  I have my degree from Sac State in nursing, which I now get to use exclusively in the care of my family 😊.  I love to share my passion for homeschooling with other families.  I am so thankful for an opportunity to invest in other families while still being available at home with my kids.  I look forward to being a part of building a thriving homeschool community at Sequoia Grove.

My name is Melissa Beaudoin. I am the mother of 2 amazing children and have been fortunate to discover the joys of homeschooling. This journey has been one of the best I've set out on. Instead of dropping my littles off 5 days a week to be taught and watched by others I get to spend the time with them and be part of the most important years of their life. I have recently joined the family Liaison team and am excited to help motivate and be there for other families. I strongly believe in taking this adventure of homeschooling one day at a time, knowing that there is no right or wrong way just a solid commitment to nourishing not only my children's growth but my own. I absolutely love watching my first grader learn and grasp a concept, there is nothing better in life then that look of understanding and pride when she takes on a task and succeeds. As a family we love to dive into arts and crafts, gardening, creating fantastic buildings out of cardboard boxes, playing boardgames, exploring outside, cooking and so much more. I cannot wait to connect with all the amazing families that are part of Sequoia Grove Charter!

My name is Rebecca LaSavio. I love helping people to discover the joy of homeschooling and find creative solutions to the challenges that inevitably pop up. I am excited to be a member of the Family Liaison team! I have been homeschooling my 4 kids since they started school. Our family enjoys the freedom in our schedule, the together time, and the piles of books we travel through. We have been with our charter since 2019 and enjoying being a part of the Sequoia Grove community!

I attended Westmont College where I got my B.A. in Liberal Studies. I have always loved working with children and I have a passion for the kids that are hard to understand or learn a little differently, the kids that life has thrown a curveball. Our family lived in Albania for 10 years, where my husband and I worked with street children and managed a home for girls at risk of trafficking.

Butte County

Hello! My name is Rebeka Heath. I love to travel, eat good food, and read. This year I have challenged myself to learn how to bake one new thing a month (too much Bake-Off during lockdown, perhaps!)  I have 7 children and am currently in my 7th year of homeschooling. This year I have children in 6th, 5th, 3rd, 2nd and 1st grade as well as a toddler and baby. My favorite things about homeschooling are the flexibility, the together time, learning with my children, and being able to customize what they learn and how they learn it- to best serve their individual strengths, personalities and passions. I love encouraging and supporting families on their homeschool journey. I look forward to building a strong and thriving homeschool community in our area where students and caregivers can find friendship and support.

Rosemary 'Roxy' Martins

Hi, I'm Rosemary Martins and my friends call me "Roxy." This is my 13th year homeschooling with my 3 kids, ages 12, 15 & 17. I began this journey as an accidental homeschooler. An unexpected situation arose which changed my thoughts about sending my then little guy to public school. Feeling anxious and unsure about what to do, I attended a random playgroup. There I met a couple of seasoned homeschooling mamas and discovered the vast world of homeschooling life. Taking that leap of faith has truly been a blessing for our family. I love the flexibility homeschooling offers, whether it's schooling on a Sunday or taking an impromptu day to the coast. The ability to cater and tailor my kid's education to their individual and specific needs, talents and passions is a tremendous gift. I love sharing my knowledge and experience with others and also hearing about other families' educational journeys and their treasured learning moments.

Sacramento County

My name is Siobhan (shuh-vawn) Berndt. I have been married to my husband for 15+ years and we have two wonderful kids. Our kids first started their education journey in a traditional school, but after debating for a few years about making the switch to homeschooling, 2020 happened and it was the push we needed! I never thought I would be a homeschool mom, but now our entire family is thriving and we are so happy we made the change. While not everyday is perfect, we love the flexibility of homeschooling and the opportunities we have been able to experience because of it. Not to mention, my kids love the fact that they can cuddle up to our family dog while doing school work. I look forward to making connections and supporting families in our Sequoia Grove community.

Sara Greco

My name is Sara Greco, and I'm excited to start my 8th year with our schools as the Lead Family Liaison!  It has been a privilege to serve our homeschool families and school staff, and I'm grateful to have met so many wonderful people along the way.  Our Family Liaison Team is preparing for another full year of encouragement and support to the Sequoia Grove Charter Alliance schools.  I received a BA in Anthropology from UC Santa Cruz and was a stay-at-home mom for many years before joining the charter school staff.  My husband and I met in college and have been married for 20 years.  We have graduated our oldest son, and this year, we will have kids in 12th grade, 10th grade, 9th grade, 7th grade, and 6th grade, and everyone will be homeschooling, though all of our kids have experienced a variety of schools over the years.  I believe education is not a one size fits all system, and I'm thankful for the many alternative opportunities available to our students today.
