This Scheme house is situated in Chikhlipada and belongs to a Dalit family of four.
The house has been extended with Karvi, a local plant to incorporate spaces like kitchen, mori, storage room and a bathroom.
The Verandah here becomes a transitional and inviting space that encourages social interactions between the people.
By utilizing local materials, the house blends into the surrounding and avoids an out of place appearance.

The intent was to open up some of the walls to increase light and ventilation and reduce the need for artificial lighting and to draw parts of the landscape into the house. The form of the house is a response to its surroundings. I've also tried to incorporate courtyards into the house as a way to foster social interactions.
