Ration house
// ANALYSIS
The research site is located in a rural village within the Palghar district, which is predominantly inhabited by Adivasi communities who engage in agriculture as their primary means of livelihood. The village's residential structures were the subject of a comprehensive study, with a specific focus on the Ration House.
This dwelling, owned by a female resident who shares it with her two sons, was constructed over five decades ago by her father-in-law. The house exemplifies traditional vernacular architecture, featuring a brick structure with a Mangalore-tile pitched roof. The internal layout adheres to the local spatial hierarchy, comprising private (padvi), semi-private (osari), and public (majghar) areas. Notably, the residence incorporates traditional elements such as wooden beams (khundi) and cow dung floors, sourced locally and reflective of the region's customary building techniques.
