Physics Pilots

Physics Pilots for 2023-2024

SDUHSD physics teachers will pilot Open Education Resources (OERs) for physics content for 23-24, and conduct a Lab Aids pilot of EDC Earth Science Revised.

Lab Aids Online Portal

Logging in with Clever

SDUHSD  science teachers and students should access the Lab Aids online platform through Clever. Links to the Clever portal are located on the SDUHSD Teacher and Student Start Pages. Lab-Aids also has a “Log In with Clever” button on their login page. Clever simplifies the login process for teachers and students so that they do not have to remember separate passwords.

Teacher Instructions

Watch this short video tutorial (note there is no sound) or follow the written instructions below.

1. Make sure you are logged into your district Google account.

2. From the district start page, select "Clever" button under "Quick Links".

3. Select "Login with Google." If prompted, select your district Google account.

4. You should be directed to the Clever homepage. Select the middle tab, scroll down and select "Lab Aids".

5. You should be directed to the Lab-Aids portal homepage.

6. Assign books to students following these instructions. Each student counts as one license, regardless of the number of books assigned to them. You can have multiple books assigned to one student, and only one license will be taken up per student. So feel free to assign books in Spanish to those students who would benefit from them.

7. While we do not have the ability to fully integrate with Google Classroom due to our method of rostering, you are able to manually share links to Google Classroom for specific textbook pages and/or simulations using these instructions.

8. Teachers and students are also able to access Lab-Aids through their sign in portal by selecting the "Login with Clever" option (make sure you are logged into your district Google account).

9. Use this Google Form to report any issues.

Pivot Interactives

SDUHSD  Physics teachers piloted Pivot Interactives to support distance learning in the 2020-2021 school year, and licenses were renewed for the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 school years. This applies to all SDUHSD Physics courses, including Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) courses.

Getting Started with Pivot Interactives

Thanks to Amy Springstead for providing the following resources!

Pivot Interactives Training

Pivot regularly hosts live virtual trainings on a variety of topics (teachers can access once they are logged in), and also delivered a couple of sessions for our district as part of our 2020-2021 pilot.

First Session: Modifying and Building

Second Session: Alternative Assessments

Pivot Interactives Support

Pivot Interactives has a robust help center, and a live chat feature to provide quick support.   Once you are logged into the platform, you will have access to these features.  They typically follow up within an hour during regualr business hours.

Reporting Problems

Updates to Pivot (Effective 1/12/2021)

Assignment Submit and Status

Students will now see a button to submit an assignment when they are finished with it. Once an assignment is submitted, students cannot make revisions. Instructors can grade or make comments, and then have the option of returning the assignment to the student for revision, or submitting a final grade. Updated grade status will be relayed to the LMS, and visible in the instructor's Scores view for the assignment. Here are updated help articles:

Custom Libraries

Instructors can now make their own libraries and share access to their libraries with other instructors. You can use this both to organize your content and to form collaborative communities within Pivot Interactives. The library pages look different now and the way you navigate libraries is smoother and more flexible. (read more)
