IB Music

LCC will be offering IB music for the first time during the 2025-26 school year!  We are very excited to continue to develop the music program and continue to offer new opportunities to study music.

The IB Music SL course is a dynamic, year-long journey into the world of music through listening, performance, and creation.  Students explore music from a wide range of cultures, styles, and historical periods while developing critical listening skills and a deeper understanding of how music communicates ideas and emotions.  Throughout the year, students will engage in active music-making, refine their performance abilities, and create original compositions using both traditional and modern tools.

Assessment is based on a balanced combination of individual performance recordings, a music portfolio featuring analysis and commentary, and a creative composition project.  Whether you’re an instrumentalist, vocalist, or composer, IB Music SL will challenge you to think critically, perform confidently, and appreciate music as a universal language.  This course is ideal for students seeking to broaden their artistic voice while preparing for further musical study or simply enriching their lifelong connection to the arts.

Musictheory.net will be a great resource for students to get caught up on their fundamental music theory needed for this course.  It is recommended that all students complete all the lessons on this website before the school year begins.
