I believe how others see you is not important. How you see yourself means everything! Experiences shape us all, and mine lead me to become a teacher for students that are " Handi- Capable." You see, in the second grade, I was diagnosed with dyslexia. It was awful and humiliating not to be able to read the “easy” words that my friends could. It made me feel small. Thankfully, Mrs. Taggert was the first of many teachers who believed in me and gave me the tools to learn and succeed. The confidence I gained over time prepared me for academic success in high school and college. But it prepared me for something even more challenging.
During my freshman year in college, a drunken boat driver carelessly crashed into the boat I was sitting in and caused the loss of my left arm. Thankfully, I survived this tragic boating accident and I don’t take any moment for granted. Ultimately, my learning challenge and physical loss gave me the empathetic desire to help and relate to others with disabilities. This is my 26th year teaching and 20th year in SDUHSD. I have my B.A. in Dance from UCR. I have my M.A. in Movement Therapy from UCLA and my P.E. and Adapted PE credential from CSUSB. I have a wonderful husband who is a firefighter. We have three precious children - I am looking forward to another great year with amazing students.
