PEER TUTOR ASSIGNMENT/PROJECTS
Level One: This is your first semester as a peer tutor. Ideas for the project are designed as an orientation to people with disabilities in which you are just beginning to be familiar with disabilities. All projects will be shared in front of the class. Choose one of the following four assignments Due Date: Jan 14
1. Keep a written journal of your thoughts/reactions to activities and students in class. How do your feelings and opinions change throughout the quarter? ( Have designated spiral notebook with daily entrees)

2. Spend time outside of class (i.e. school lunch, school dance) with a student on two occasions (with the same or another student) and submit a one page typed written account of each experience (for both encounters two pages typed total)
- 1.States with whom, what they did, and where they went
- 2.States what was most difficult about the encounter
- 3.States what was most rewarding about the encounter
- The definition of disability
- Etiology/cause (if not yet determined, state possible theories)
- Incidence/population
- Associated disabilities
- Pathology/out come
- 5 physical therapeutic interventions
- Personal experience
- Bibliography
- A copy of each of your articles used (print out Web sites used).
Level Two: This is your second semester as a peer tutor. Ideas for projects will take your Knowledge outside of the classroom where you will share your knowledge with others. Choose one of the following assignments Due Date: June 1
1. Develop a presentation/ 3 min video or 8 slide presentation on “Ability awareness” that you present in a general education class or club.
- 1st present to APE class
- present to general ed population
- have general ed teacher/advisor sign off and write comments
- Create handout typed with pictures
- Stage presence
2. Attend community events for people with disabilities, type up 2-page report and or 3 min video or 8 slide presentation on event with artifacts proving you were at the event.
3. Volunteer to lead and teach a new activity to the class (complete lesson plan paper work).
4. Personal experience 3 min video/ 8 slide presentation or paper 2 pages typed
-States what they learned from class
-States what was most difficult about the class
-States what was most rewarding about the class
-States if they would like to pursue a career or continue to work with students with disabilities
