Personal Absences

What is a Personal Absence

A personal absence is any absence that is excused by the parent but not considered excused by the California Ed. Code.

Making up work for Personal Absence

If a student misses class for personal reasons, it is a the sole discretion of the classroom teacher(s) to allow the student to make up quizzes, tests and/or other school work for days students have unverified or unexcused absences or Tardies in their classes.

Students should make prior arrangements with their teachers to confirm they will be allowed to make up work. Please check their class syllabus for the procedure for each class prior to missing school.

Upon return to school it is the student's responsibility to make arrangements with the teacher to make up the work.

Excused Absences

What is an Excused Absence

An Excused absence is and absence that is considered excused by the California Ed. Code.

Making up work for Excused Absences

A pupil absent from school under this section shall be allowed to complete all assignments and tests missed during the absence that can reasonably be provided and, upon satisfactory completion within a reasonable period of time as determined by the classroom teacher, shall be given full credit.

The teacher of any classroom from which a pupil is absent shall determine the tests and assignments reasonably equivalent to, but not necessarily identical to, the tests and assignments that the pupil missed during the absence.

It is the student's responsibility to communicate with the teacher(s) immediately upon return to school to make up work.
