Always be on time for duty and immediately available by phone. Carry REO provided cell phones at all times while on duty. Special care should be taken with these phones and any needed repairs should be reported to your RHC or the RHC on duty immediately. Never use the cell phone provided by REO to make personal phone calls.
Be physically in the complex at all times when on duty. Duty schedules will be determined for each community. When you are on duty, be sure that you can be contacted easily. Please answer someone may need to get in touch with you.
Wear your Residential Education Security Badge and REO polo or shirt.
During weekend duty, be physically in the complex at all times. The only time you can be out of the complex is when on weekend duty you take your meal breaks and your duty partner is covering the building. Meal breaks are 1.5 hours for lunch and dinner for each duty partner between 7:00A.M. and 7:00P.M. If an incident requiring back-up occurs while one duty partner is on break, they will need to return to the building. Both duty partners must be in the complex between 7:00P.M. and 7:00A.M.
You must always complete community walks with your duty partner.
Complete community walks at assigned times (varies by community).
Check for safety and security breaches on all sets of community walks. Breaches could include such things as propped doors/gates, unknown individuals wandering around, missing screens, etc. Input service requests for all needs immediately.
Watch for vandalism and safety concerns such as exposed wires, broken glass, bodily fluids, etc. Report these immediately to your RHC or the RHC on duty and always follow up with a service request.
Confront all inappropriate situations and policy violations. You should always document. Do not give warnings.
Make community walks a time to help build community in your building. Check on your residents and compliment them for good things you see them doing
Skipping community walks and/or ignoring policy violations at any time for any reason is grounds for removal from the student leader role.
Call University Police if you need assistance, especially if it involves large groups of students or you feel unsafe.
Student Leaders on duty should call from the Building/Area duty phone to their respective RHC on Call according to their side of campus between 6:45pm-7:15pm nightly to “check-in” with the RHC on Call. Each Student Leader is responsible for checking in from their respective duty phone.
If a Student Leader is on duty for more than one day in a row, that Student leader should check in every night while duty regardless of duration.
Student Leaders will provide the RHC on Call with their first and last name, and the Building/Area they are covering for duty. Please be clear so the RHC can document the information in their log.
Student Leaders on duty can only check themselves in with the RHC on Call. It is the responsibility of those on duty to call and check in with the RHC on Call from the duty phones separately. The RHC on Call will check off the phone call in their log.
