Welcome to the 2025 Badminton Season!
Badminton Weekly Practice Schedule (Click Here) 2025 Season Overview Handout (Click Here)
ROMS Badminton 2025
1. Practices:
The practice schedule will be posted weekly on the ROMS Athletic webpage. Some practices will be grade specific and others will allow for inter grade play. Additional practices may be added and posted on the announcements and on the PE office door. Throughout April, there will be three to four league exhibition jamborees versus visiting schools all at Royal Oak. In late April/ early May, there will be a City Playoff tournament for each grade for qualifying students, and then the City Championships.
2. Badminton Exhibition Jamboree Schedule @ ROMS:
*All badminton Team Members Welcome* - Students can attend 2 of 3 jamborees.
Wednesday, April 9 (3:30-5:00) vs PCS @ ROMS
Wednesday, April 17 (3:30-5:00) vs Shoreline @ ROMS
Tuesday, April 22 (3:30-5:00) vs Cedar Hill @ ROMS
Due to the high number of students interested in playing badminton this season, we will need to coordinate and limit who will represent Royal Oak at league exhibition jamborees. Coaches will select a jamboree roster based on attendance (coach's discretion), and the number of students who want to participate. Our aim is to have as many students represent ROMS as possible, however there may only be room for each student to attend one league exhibition jamboree if we have a very high level of student interest.
3. City Championships Playoff Tournament @ SMUS: GAMES TO START at 3:30pm
Grade 6: Monday April 28th @ SMUS
Grade 7: Tuesday April 29th @ SMUS
Grade 8: Wednesday April 30th @ SMUS
City Championships: All Grades: Monday May 5th @ SMUS (Semi-Finals and Finals)
Each school is allowed to enter 2 teams/players in each division per grade. The divisions are for each grade: girls singles, boys singles, girls doubles, boys doubles. Our teams travel to SMUS on the dates listed above to play matches versus other schools. Further details will be provided closer to these tournaments.
*Permission forms will be handed out at a later date to qualifying students who will play in City Playoffs and Championships as they will not play at schools other than ROMS for exhibition play dates.*
Team Qualifying for City Playoff Championship Tournaments:
For the City Playoff Tournaments (April 28th - 30th) and Championships (May 5th), schools are allowed a limited number of entries in each division. Consequently, students will be required to qualify in order to participate and represent Royal Oak in these events. Qualifying matches will be held throughout April to determine our rosters. We will be holding in house qualification tournaments to determine our teams and who will represent ROMS in each division at the City tournaments. Players must register for these qualifying tournaments and are required to attend scheduled matches. Nevertheless, we will provide as many practice and in house match opportunities as possible to ensure reasonable playing time for each student. Also, those who just want to play for fun are welcome and encouraged to be involved and play in an exhibition jamboree for ROMS. Additional details will be announced in April regarding qualifying.
Transportation:
Getting to the City Playoff Championships in late April/early May, for students who qualify, athletes will rely on parent drivers. With these events happening across town, we encourage qualifying athletes to communicate with their parents about transportation arrangements well before an event. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to arrange and provide all transportation to and from ROMS Athletic events. Students are required to have an early dismissal form (included in package) signed and returned to allow themselves to sign out early from school on event days where travel is required.
We look forward to an exciting season ahead! Let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Please visit the ROMS athletics and the Lower Island Middle School Sports Association (LIMSSA) website for additional details and schedules. (http://www.lowerislandschoolsports.ca)
