Our Final Race with the Entire Team in the 24/25 Nordic Season
Today marked our final race with the entire team—a perfect opportunity to celebrate our season’s accomplishments. We arrived to a couple of inches of fresh snow on a beautiful morning, with partial sunshine and temperatures starting at 26°F before dropping to around 15°F. Since we hadn’t waxed our skis this week, they were a bit slower overall.
The course was fantastic, beginning with a smooth start, leading into some challenging ups and downs, followed by a long, gradual uphill along the road to the edge of Yellowstone National Park. From there, the course turned around and transitioned into a mostly gentle downhill stretch to the finish. The Cody grooming crew worked hard to transform the soft snow into a firm skate trail, and they did an excellent job.
Unfortunately, Kade and Kindell had to sit out their races. Kayley, battling an aching back, pushed through to an impressive 2nd-place finish overall. Justin had another outstanding performance, finishing 13th—his dedication is unmatched, and it’s rewarding to see his hard work pay off. SeanKyle, often our top racer, finished just behind Justin despite still feeling the effects of last week’s training. Henry placed 3rd on our team in what was his final high school skate race—he’ll only compete in the classic race at State in Laramie. Henry is an incredibly kind and insightful young man, and while watching athletes grow is the best part of coaching, saying goodbye always comes too soon.
For some of our skiers, today was their last race of the season, and as coaches, we couldn’t be prouder of them!
Logan Z had a fantastic weekend, placing in the top 10 for JV both days. A sophomore in his first year of skiing, with no prior endurance sports background, he has stood out not only for his work ethic but also for his kindness, humility, and discipline. Logan carries a rare sense of calm, and if coaches could hand-pick their teams, he would be a top draft. We hope he looks forward to continuing this journey as much as we do—his potential as a skier is tremendous.
Logan M, our second Logan, is a freshman who recently moved to Sheridan with his family. Also a first-year skier with no prior endurance training, he is one of the most inquisitive athletes on the team, always asking thoughtful questions and engaging with the coaches. Those of us who suffer from cold hands are especially jealous of his ability to endure freezing temperatures without gloves! Coaching Logan is a joy, and now it’s up to him to decide how important skiing is to him—if he’s willing to commit to disciplined off-season training, he has the potential to transform into a formidable endurance athlete.
Sean is wrapping up his second year of skiing, and what a fireball he has become! His energy, positivity, and work ethic are inspiring. He attacks skiing with his "dynamite DNA," never complains, and always brings a smile and a lighthearted spirit to the team. We’re so grateful to have him on board—his enthusiasm lifts everyone around him.
Elijah, also in his second year, started with us as a tall but still-developing skier. Over the past 16 months, he has gained significant strength, transforming from someone struggling to stay upright to a confident skier who can tackle any trail. Growing up partially overseas has made navigating U.S. high school culture an additional challenge, but watching him grow more comfortable in this environment has been incredibly rewarding as a coach.
Isabelle began skiing in middle school and joined our high school team this season. She is a true ambassador for the sport, constantly cheering for her teammates and drawing athletes from other teams into our circle. Her contagious smile and enthusiasm have made our team more connected than ever with other WY teams. Her athletic transformation has been just as inspiring—she’s gone from feeling uncertain about her place on the team to fully embracing her role. Isabelle has incredible explosive power, but her aerobic base needs development. If she commits to consistent off-season training, she’ll be a powerhouse next season.
Clara may not have made the State Varsity team, but her dedication and perseverance have been remarkable. Now in her third year with us, this has been her strongest athletic season by far. Her wit and maturity make her a delight to coach, and we see real potential for her senior year. Her commitment to skiing is commendable, and we’re excited to see how she continues to grow.
