Tier 2 Interventions

This is only a layer on top of the Tier 1 instruction and supports the student continues to receive.

Tier 2 interventions follow a standard "plug and play" approach. At this level, we're not custom designing something for an individual student. The school maintains a menu of highly effective intervention programs, each with a consistent "recipe." We then match at-risk students with the intervention on our menu that fits their needs.

We make those "match" decisions based on a variety of available data sources (e.g., mySAEBRS/SAEBRS data, discipline, attendance, grades, teacher input). In addition, some schools collect observational data.

Check-In/Check-Out (CICO)

Students check-in at the beginning of the day, have teachers rate their behavior on a point card throughout the day, and then check-out at the end of the day.

Class Pass

Students receive a set number of passes that allow them to stop working for a set amount of time. If a student persists and saves their passes, they can exchange them for other incentives.

Life Skill Groups

Students meet in a small group or individual format. The facilitator empathetically listens, helps the students set personal goals, and engages them in skill development via explicit instruction in life skills.

Organizational Skills Coaching

Students learn skill such as: organizing materials, recording homework due dates and tracking completion, time management/prioritization, etc.

Check & Connect Mentoring

A structured mentor program that uses both systemic monitoring (i.e., "check") and relationship building (i.e., "connect") to promote student engagement.

Behavior Contracts

School staff negotiate a contract with a student. If the student meets a specified bar (e.g., ratio of homework turned in on time, attendance level), they earn a predetermined incentive.
