Nic van Oss holds dual roles at the St. Croix River Education District (SCRED): MTSS & School Climate Specialist (full time) and Communications Specialist (part time). Nic created the SCRED Life Skills website in 2020, and he is also the creator of the Be Good People curriculum. Nic continues to develop and manage both Be Good People and the SCRED Life Skills website in its entirety.

Nic is the go-to person for any communication regarding this website and the resources hosted on it (ex. Be Good People). The drop downs below offer Nic's contact information and guidance regarding the common reasons folks reach out to Nic. ⬇️ *

"I have a question about Be Good People."

One Nic, thousands of districts

Nic loves to collaborate with and learn from educators in external districts. Please keep a few things in mind:

Be Good People is used in over 4,000 districts (as of 2025).
Nic has full-time duties at SCRED, including managing data platforms, leading trainings, working with instructional coaches, etc.
Nic cannot prioritize the needs of external parties over SCRED duties.

Before reaching out to Nic, please ensure that you have completed the three requirements for external districts, which are explained at the top of the main Be Good People page. These requirements include reviewing the Be Good People FAQs. Nic does not have capacity to respond to questions that are answered in the FAQs.

Service requests

If your inquiry involves consultative services — such as:

Discussing aspects of Be Good People implementation in your school/district
Explaining Be Good People to your leadership team
Preparing documents for your curriculum review committee

...as a SCRED employee, Nic cannot provide services like these to your district.

Outside of his work for SCRED, Nic is able to contract with external districts as a consultant/trainer. If you'd like contract with Nic, please reach out at nvanoss@scred.k12.mn.us
