It's been another term full of hard work and fun. In Maths we learned Long Multiplication, Long Division, Geometry and 2D Shapes. We read the book Mimi by John Newman. For our writing we concentrated on Narratives.
This term 5th Class A made a lot of things such leaf lanterns, hope lanterns, snowflakes, Christmas decorations, window stencils and a Christmas wreath. We enjoyed taking part in the Christmas jumper colouring competition.
We also had our first trip of the year to Christchurch Cathedral. We planted some bulbs for the spring and we set up our bird feeder to help our feathered friends through the cold weather.
One of highlights was writing and creating a Christmas themed movie, it was a lot of work but great fun! Happy 2021 everyone!
We've been busy busy busy in the month following the Halloween break. We welcomed a new student to our class which is fantastic. They've been settling in well and working hard.
In Maths we concentrated on Division and Fractions, both challenging topics, but we're getting the hang of them through hard work and determination.
Irish topics have included pets, our locality, and our school. We also do a comprehension every day and for listening we watch a show on TG4 called "Is Eolaí Mé" all about Science.
In English we are reading a novel by John Newman called "Mimi". It's a bittersweet tale of a girl and her family...you'll both laugh and cry reading it, which is the sign of a good book! It will be sure to feed into our latest writing genre - narrative!
In SESE we enjoyed some virtual events for Science Week, including a look behind the scenes of the Dead Zoo in Dublin. We completed a fantastic Science Trail created by 6th Class. We also looked at the Aztec people of South America. We designed some sustainability posters for a Dublin City Council competition. We also set up our bird feeder in the garden and filled it to the brim with nutritious food for our feathered friends.
In SPHE we've continue to look at our connections to others, the different groups we belong to and how we communicate with those around us.
In PE we're channelling our inner Messi practicing our soccer skills!
And now we're entering the Christmas season - phew! Busy times!
Check out some photos below and then head over to the Art section to see our newest creations.
Monthly newsletter September
It's been a September like no other, but 5th Class have really risen to the challenge! In many ways it's like we were never away - yes there is more handwashing and social distancing and more rules to keep us safe but at the heart of it all is learning, fun, and a lot of hard work.
We've done a lot of revision of topics to remind us of what we may have forgotten during the school closure.
In Maths we concentrated on Place Value, and lots of strategies for addition and subtraction for our Mental Maths.
Irish has mainly been all about us! Mé Féin - talking about ourselves, our family, where we live etc. We've also enjoyed watching and understanding Dónall Dána aka Horrid Henry...we nearly know the theme tune by heart at this stage :)
In English we've really enjoyed reading Boot by Shane Hegarty, a story about a futuristic city and the special story of one incredible robot named Boot.
In SESE we've looked to the stars and constellations and more locally to the mountains, rivers and lakes of Ireland, as well as celebrating National Tree Day.
In Art we've looked at a number of artists including Mogdiliani, Miro and Picasso.
PE has seen some heart bursting performances from the whole class as we try to improve our sprinting and middle distance running.
Finally, in SPHE we've been spending a lot of time talking and thinking about the different groups we belong to and also about having a growth mindset.
It's incredible to think that a full month has gone by - well done to all and thank you for your hard work and we'll have another update at the Halloween holidays!
