Creating Zentangles can be a relaxing and calming activity.
The Zentangle Method is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing patterns, called "tangles". You create tangles with combinations of dots, lines, simple curves, S-curves and orbs. These simple shapes are the "Elemental Strokes" in all Zentangle art. These patterns are drawn on small pieces of paper called "tiles." We call them tiles because you can assemble them into mosaics.
What you'll need:
Paper
Pencil
Black Sharpie, marker, or the darkest pencil you can find.
Ruler
Scissors
Instructions:
On your sheet of paper, measure out squares 9cm long and 9cm wide. Fit as many as you can on the page.
Trim the remainder of the paper away so you have a perfect square, or leave it as a rectangle.
In each box you will create a different pattern. Use your pencil first, and when you are happy with it, trace over it with your Sharpie, marker or dark pencil.
Fill each box. Let your mind wander and try to create your own repeating patterns.
You don't have to use squares. You can use any shape to fill - spirals, rectangles, horizontal or vertical columns.
There are some starting points for you to try below.
I spoke to some of you about this on Friday. RTE are holding an All Ireland art competition at the moment. There is a few more days to enter. You can find the details here: https://www.thisisart.ie/
