These are some suggested online/offline activities to keep the children working. They are optional and they do not all have to be completed as we do not wish to add further stress to family life during these unprecedented times.
This week you can do some activities from Maths, English and Irish and you can choose one other activity from one of the following subjects: SESE, STEM, SPHE, PE, Arts and Religion.
There is an option to email a picture of work or send an email about work completed to the teacher on a Friday only if you wish. You can tell us about what activities you enjoyed.
Time (Calendar):
Use a calendar for May 2020 (paper, online or children could copy one down and draw their own) and ask children to answer the following questions:
1. What day of the week is 14th May 2020?
2. Which month comes after May?
3. Which month comes before May?
4. Which months have 31 days?
5. What is the exact date of your next Birthday?
6. What is the date a week after 21st May 2020?
7. What is the date a week before 17th May 2020?
8. How many days are there in February 2020?
9. How many days are there in February when it is a leap year?
10 . How many Fridays are there in May 2020?
11. Make a list of the seasons and the months that correspond to each season. Draw a picture to represent the season.
12. Problem Solving questions: If I had a dentist appointment on the 15th May and the dentist asked me to return in 9 days, what day would my upcoming appointment fall on? Pick similar style questions and swap day/date.
Extension activity: Pick any month and ask similar questions
Can your child order the days of the week, the months of the year and name which months go with the 4 seasons?
Sample questions:
What day comes just before Thursday?
What is the first day of the week? What are the weekdays?
What are the weekend days?
What is the first month of the year? Which month is five months after May?
Which month is three months before April?

Use any Irish words that you know as a substitute for English words while speaking to the children. Instead of saying, “Put on your jumper” say, “Put on your geansaí”. This would help children become more familiar with Irish vocabulary.
