These are some suggested online/offline activities to keep the children working. They are optional and they do not all have to be completed as we do not wish to add further stress to family life during these unprecedented times.
This week you can do some activities from Maths, English and Irish and you can choose one other activity from one of the following subjects: SESE, STEM, SPHE, PE, Arts and Religion.
There is an option to email a picture of work or send an email about work completed to the teacher on a Friday only if you wish. You can tell us about what activities you enjoyed.
If possible, use real/ play Euro coins to help children with the following activities

Think about what you know about adjectives (they describe a person, place or thing)
Write down 10 adjectives that you know
Learn to use a dictionary/thesaurus or use an online thesaurus www.merriam-webster.com/thesaurus/thesaurus
Improve 4 of the adjectives you wrote down using the dictionary/ thesaurus or online thesaurus. For example, the adjective ‘unclean’ could be improved upon. The adjective ‘filthy’ could be used instead. This gives children an understanding of synonyms.
Put some of the new adjectives that you learned into sentences.
Read for 20 minutes each day (adult reads to child/ child reads to adult/ chat about the story)

As a continuation of your work on spring last week, plant some seeds and take care of the plant/ flower as it grows.
Record your plant/ flower’s progress every few days. You may also include drawings and/ or photographs, e.g. Day 1: I planted my seed in its pot today. I watered it and put it near a window to get lots of light.
Project work: Create a scrapbook or write a diary or create a PowerPoint about your time at home during the school closures - What have you been doing? How are you feeling about staying at home? What do you miss? Have you made/ baked/ created anything? What have you learned?, etc.
You may include photographs, drawings and pictures from magazines/ newspapers.
You can continue to add to the project over the coming days/ weeks.
Challenge: Pretend you are an engineer. You have been asked to design a building that can withstand an earthquake.
YouTube video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMnEXukSmdg
Design an earthquake proof structure: Your structure must be able to withstand an earthquake (shaking jelly) for 10-20 seconds.
Materials you can use for this experiment: Tin foil tray, jelly (make it with an adult), spaghetti or toothpicks and marshmallows. Once you complete the challenge you must perform a self-assessment. Write down why you think your structure survived the earthquake or what changes you needed to make to ensure your structure was successful. Draw and label a picture of the structure you created in your copy or send us a picture, we’d love to see it!
