Passport to Social Studies
The K–12 Passport to Social Studies curriculum was informed by and integrates aspects of the NYSED Social Studies Framework, Understanding by Design, and reflects the Next Generation Learning Standards. It was designed by New York City public school educators, historians, and other experts and incorporates principles of quality social studies instruction, diversity and multiple perspectives, and the importance of inquiry with the objective of preparing students for a global community.
Passport to Social Studies are not textbooks. Each unit guide provides guidance for lessons, thinking tools and strategies for students to engage with the content, along with texts and other resources for instruction. In addition to Passport there are several companion resources meant to enrich your instruction. Check out Civics for All, Hidden Voices, or the Comics Group for more.

Social Studies Scope and Sequence
These comprehensive resources integrate national standards, the New York State Social Studies Core Curriculum (content, concepts, key ideas, understandings and performance indicators), the Next Generation Learning Standards (NGLS) and the New York State K–12 Social Studies Framework.
Each yearly course of study is organized around a suggested time frame for core content (units of study) guided by essential questions. Teachers can use the document to focus on planning coherent instruction that considers relevant skills, practices and knowledge objectives for deep historical understanding.
