March 9-13, 2026
Civics Week is March 9-13, 2026. Are you ready?
March 9-13, 2026
For this year's Civics Week theme, the Department of Social Studies and Civics is acknowledging the celebration of America's 250th anniversary. This year's theme, Voices Then, Voices Now, invites young people to draw inspiration from the many voices throughout United States history that have made our democracy possible. During Civics Week and throughout the year, we encourage students to consider the importance of their voice in bringing democracy into the next 250 years!
Digital Resource Collection: To support your Civics Week initiatives, we're updating our digital resource collection for K–12. The High School Logistics Guide (coming soon!) can also be found in our Digital Collection.
Student Voter Registration Drive: As an integral part of Civics Week each year, the DOE hosts an annual Student Voter Registration drive for U.S. citizens who are 16 years of age or older.
2026 Civics for All Poster Contest
New York City students in grades K through 12 are invited to showcase their civic engagement and artistic talent by participating in the annual NYCDOE Civics for All Poster Contest. The annual poster contest encourages students to:
Learn about important issues
Consider creative ways to use their voice
Understand and amplify why voting and active civic participation are important
Submissions for the 2026 Civics for All Poster Contest are open! Our suggested themes this year are focused on highlighting our 2026 Civics Week theme, "America 250: Voices Then, Voices Now.” Please read the Poster Contest guidelines and submission details here.
Did you know?
Since the creation of the Civics for All program it’s estimated that we’ve registered and pre-registered 82,000+ students to vote in NYC!
