Our society is falling apart. The people who are walking around right now could have done something horrible and it, quite possibly, was motivated by something. People are motivated to do bad things because of wealth, revenge, or authority. People might be greedy and try to do horrible things just for money, they might get vengeance for something, or authority might pressure them into doing something. However, others may say that people do bad things for only power.
People are motivated to do bad things for wealth. In the story, Button Button, Norma and Arthur are presented with an offer. They can kill a random person that they don’t know for 50,000 dollars. Norma wants to murder somebody just for the $50,000. For instance, the text states, ““If it’s some old Chinese peasant ten thousand miles away? Some diseased native in the Congo?” “How about a baby boy in Pennsylvania?” Arthur countered. “Some beautiful little girl on the next block?” “Now you’re loading things.” “The point is, Norma,” he continued, “what’s the difference whom you kill? It’s still murder.” “The point is,” Norma broke in, “if it’s someone you’ve never seen in your life and never will see, someone whose death you don’t even have to know about, you still wouldn’t push the button?” Arthur stared at her, appalled. "You mean you would?” “Fifty thousand dollars, Arthur.” People are motivated by wealth to do bad things as shown by Norma. Norma wanted to murder somebody just for the $50,000 without thinking about the consequences. She was blinded by the money. In conclusion, people are motivated to do bad things for wealth and this is shown by Norma who wanted to murder any random person for $50,000 without thinking about the effects.
People are motivated to do bad things for revenge. In the story, Ruthless, Judson finds out his liquor was stolen and decides to get revenge on the thief. He poisons a bottle of liquor so that when the thief drinks the liquor, he will die. For instance, the text states, ““Whoever broke into my closet last Winter and stole my liquor will probably try it again once we are out of here,” he went on, “only this time he’ll wish he hadn’t.” She caught her breath at the cruel vindictiveness of his manner as one by one he dropped the tablets into the bottle and held it up to watch them dissolve. “What are they?” she asked, “something to make him sick?” People are motivated to do bad things as an act of revenge as shown by Judson. Judson noticed his liquor was stolen so he ended up poisoning it so that the thief would die when he drank it. In conclusion, people are motivated to do bad things because of revenge and this is proven by Judson, who attempted to kill someone for stealing his liquor.
People are motivated to do bad things because of authority. In the Stanford Prison Experiment, there was a warden, guards, and prisoners. The Warden ordered the guards to do whatever they deemed lawful. They ended up stripping some inmates naked, taking away their beds, and putting them in solitary confinement. People are motivated to do bad things mainly because of authorities and higher ups. Those authorities can give people power to do whatever they want as seen in the Stanford Prison Experiment. The Warden just let them do whatever they wanted to do to the inmates. Normally, they would be colleagues but when power is given to some, they might abuse that given power. In conclusion, people are motivated to do bad things because of authority as seen in the Stanford Prison Experiment where the guards were motivated to do those bad things because of authority.
In my opinion, people are motivated to do bad things for authority, money, and revenge. However, others may disagree with my opinion. They might say that people are motivated to do bad things for only power. This is proven in the Stanford Prison Experiment, Ruthless, and Button Button. In the Stanford Prison Experiment, the guards did the horrible things they did because of power. They had the power to do it so they went ahead and did it. In Button Button, Norma pressed the button for $50,000 because she had the power to and it seemed like a good option. She had the power to press the button for $50,000 and she used that power. In Ruthless, Judson poisoned the drink because he had the power to. Sure he wasn’t of high authority or anything. However, he had the option to poison it. He didn’t have to poison it but he did it so he would have power over the thief. In conclusion, people are motivated to do bad things because of power as shown in Ruthless, Button Button, and the Stanford Prison Experiment where all of them did what they did because they had the power.
In conclusion, people are motivated to do bad things for money, revenge, and authority. If my argument was right, we would be able to narrow down reasons why a lot of people do horrible things in our society. We could find out if they did the horrible thing for money, for revenge, or even for authority.

The Metaverse, How Does Society Benefit From it?
The Metaverse is an upcoming VR world that simulates a digital society. The Metaverse allows you to play games, hang out with friends and family, and have a great time overall. The Metaverse can be considered beneficial because it can positively affect society digitally, and provide the average citizen with economic opportunities. However, it can negatively affect our physical society.
The Metaverse could be considered beneficial because it can positively affect our digital society. Our digital society is thriving because now, we can communicate with friends and family as well as interact with other people through the pandemic. For Instance, the text states, “Niantic is another metaverse project looking to connect the entire world using one program. Their ultimate aim is to create an AR platform where users from around the world can interact, joining forces to create projects which would otherwise be impossible” (Rijmenam) With the Metaverse involved, our society will benefit digitally as we can interact with family and friends across the world as well as communicate with people from all over the world. Another example would be “Facebook’s project, Facebook Horizon, looks to give Facebook users a shared digital space where they can interact, play easy and fun games, and even create” (Rijmenam) With the Metaverse, Facebook users can play, create, and interact with friends and family that also have Facebook. This allows them to interact with long distance fried\nds or family and to enjoy the games with other people. In conclusion, The Metaverse could be considered a great project for society as it positively affects our digital society.
The Metaverse would be considered beneficial in terms of the economic opportunity. The Metaverse provides businesses with digital shops and cryptocurrencies are going to be used a lot. Most purchases in the Metaverse would be made with cryptocurrencies and NFT’s, non fungible tokens, so it provides more business opportunities. For instance, “With the metaverse having an independent, whole economy of its own, cryptocurrency and digital currency will likely become the key transactional method” (Fowler) The Metaverse would have great business opportunities as cryptocurrencies would be more relevant allowing more people to make money and thrive. Another example would be “such currencies will be key to trading across the real world and the digital world, all while being supported and distributed by technologies such as blockchain” (Fowler) The Metaverse could be beneficial in terms of the business opportunity because the trade of crypto currencies can make more money for people starting out and it will be maintained by the blockchain. In conclusion, the Metaverse is beneficial for economic opportunities.
The Metaverse is a great project. It connects people from long distances and it provides a lot of economic opportunities. However, it isn’t that great for our physical society. Our physical society will most likely suffer as most people would focus on the digital aspect of society. For instance, “Given how most individuals are already so addicted to our screens, imagine how much more addictive, and immersive, the metaverse will be when the senses are more fully engaged” (Bayse) With the Metaverse rising, more people will be addicted to the Metaverse which will result in them staying in the Metaverse and our physical society crumbling. Another example would be “The implications could mean more isolation, suicide, mental health distress, poor physical health — and the list goes on” (Bayse) With the rise of the Metaverse, more people would be addicted resulting in them being isolated from family and friends in real life as well as mental health issues. In conclusion, having the Metaverse could be detrimental in our physical society.
Ultimately, the Metaverse is a great concept. It has interaction with long distance people and there are a lot of economic benefits in the Metaverse. The only issue would be that our society will crumble since more people would be addicted and never contribute to society.
