Does the internet affect our way of focusing? The internet is useful but is also very distracting. For example sometimes whenever I am in school I am not focused because of a game I play thinking to myself what will I do and this affects how i focus at school. Are we losing our ability to think by ourselves or do we need the internet to think for us?
Do we really need the internet for every single thing we do? Let's go back to our younger selves before we even had phones or before they even existed , back then we would actually think by ourselves whenever we were asked a question but now when we are told a question we take out our phones and search it up. When Iwas younger before i even had a phone sometimes I would get asked questions and I would answer them but after I got my phone many question i was told i would say “ wait I'm going to search it up on my phone” this shows how critically we think as the less we actually try to do it by ourselves the less we will actually learn.
We think because of technology we know everything but do we really? In an article a teacher told his class to read, they did poorly. Their reading skills were very low as they would just read in their minds or use an audio book. Using an audio book might be helpful but it is also unhealthy to your reading skills. The reason for this is because we have barely practiced ever since audio books were invented, this has caused reading levels of people to decrease by a lot. Technology is technically our teacher now cause now we get asked something and we search it up and it gives us the answers.
Technology affects not only our reading skills but other subjects too. A huge example is math , there is now calculator so now we rather search up what is 37 x 56 than actually do the math to get a better form of learning we think it is easier to do it with technology in a few circumstances yes but that doesn’t matter cause we let technology take over our brains and afterwards when we get asked something we don’t know what they refer to because we are use to having everything at our hands( by this I mean that we are use to just using our phones to search something up).
Now yes the internet is helpful because you could actually search up the question but instead of searching it up you could try a tutorial on how to solve it that would be more efficient than just copying the answers you are told. For example sometimes when I did my math homework I would be assigned youtube videos to watch like how to solve for x, etc… and it would be very helpful. One reason for this is because once I decided to use the calculator to do a problem and it gave me an answer. Now the problem is that I didn't get any actual help out of it as I didn't do it mentally/on my own. That is why I rather watch a video to learn how to solve a problem than just get the answers.
The internet is helpful but it is also unhealthy we can use our phones from time to time but we should make it a habit cause it affects our way of learning and by the time you get asked something could be as simple as adding 5+6 and we wouldn’t know it because are addicted to our phones and getting the answer from them and then we don’t take the time to actually find a way to solve the problem/question.
