Have you ever wondered if the internet is good or bad for you? This has been a question for as long as technology has been here. Many people say it is bad since it ruins your eyesight. On the other hand people state it is helpful since you can search up almost anything in the blink of an eye. However, most of the time technology has a bad impact on your thinking process. Some reasons are, people are too reliant on the internet, can make you stupider, and lose the lack to think critically.
One example of people being too reliant on the internet is, whenever you ask a question majority people will search it up on google. No matter what question it is, people can search it up on google. This has led to an era of searching up questions when asked, but to think of when you don’t have a device on you that can use google those people are doomed. One piece of information that supports people who are too reliant on the internet is “What they would do is they would start Googling the question ‘How does a novel represent humanity?’(Ok, Google, Where did I put my Thinking Cap?)” This would show that people went immediately to google because the teacher was expecting the students to think about the question and answer it from their mind, but instead when asked the question they went to google. Another piece of evidence is “Where were you on the night of February 8th, 2010? If you use a modern program like gmail you could find where you were.” (The Memex In Your Pocket.) This also shows that people can be too reliant on technology because if you need gmail to remember an important day then you're doomed. This is because there is a chance that Gmail can go down. Even if it didn’t you still should be able to remember. This shows that people can be to reliant on technology
Another reason for technology having a negative impact on your thinking process is that it can make you stupider. One piece of evidence supporting this is, “The writer Nicholas Carr worries that information age is leading inexorably to an age of ADHD… this would lead to people being incapable of reading a book let alone sustaining the type of profound contemplation that leads to real wisdom” (Author Nicholas Carr: The Web Shatters Focus, Rewires Brain.) This is showing that people online technology are closer to getting ADHD, which can lead to not being able to read books that well. Not being able to read books well can also lead to lower IQ, which is not very good. Another piece of evidence is, “When the load exceeds our mind’s ability to restore it, we’re unable to retain information and draw connections to other memories.” This piece of evidence shows that all the information from the internet can make it harder for you to remember information and memories. Lack of remembering can be a sign of ADHD, which can cause lower IQ. This shows that technology can lower your IQ.
The third reason technology has a negative impact on your thinking process is, you can lose the lack of thinking critically. One piece of evidence is that, “Heick had intended his students to take a moment to think, figure out what type of information they needed, and how to evaluate the viewpoints, instead they went to google” (Ok, Google, Where did I put my Thinking Cap?) This piece of evidence supports my reasoning because it shows that his students didn’t critically think about the question that was given to them, instead they just searched it up on google without a second thought. This would also show that they lack to think critically since they didn’t think about it for a second and just searched it up. If you don’t have a device that can use Google and you had to critically think, such as an interview, you would be doomed. Another piece of evidence is, “Dazzled by the Net’s treasures, we are blind to the damage we might be doing to our intellectual lives and even our culture” (Author Nicholas Carr: The Web Shatters Focus, Rewires Brain.) This shows that these people lack to think critically about their brains and their lives since they are basically allowing the internet to damage their minds. This shows that technology can cause people to think critically.
Critics say that technology can be good for you since it holds information for longer periods of time. It was stated in, “If you use a modern program like Gmail, it can save all your information” (Author Nicholas Carr: The Web Shatters Focus, Rewires Brain.) However this is not good. Sure it might be able to save your information but so can a notepad. Also this notepad would be more safe since Gmail has a chance to go down, get attacked, or get booted. There are instances where your information can get leaked because of a silly mistake at Google. However with a notepad, that information stays with you and can’t get hacked, booted, or leaked as easily.
In conclusion, technology has a bad impact on your mind. Whether it’s people being too reliant on it, or the lack of thinking critically or even it making you dumber. In the end the majority will use the internet but will forget about the consequences. They will eventually see it in the long term.
The central idea of the text was to be grateful for what you have. The narrator showed this by explaining the conflict and theme. She expressed this throughout the story to show that she was very grateful for what they had.
One example of the conflict shown was when she went to the bookstore. The evidence showing that there was a problem at the bookstore was, “There was a copy of War And Peace, it was 80 zloty but I only had 30.” This shows that there is a problem and she needs to find out the solution to this problem. So she ran to her Dad’s office and got the extra money to get the book. She was very happy with that book. This showed that she was grateful for what she had because all the other kids had the expensive new stuff and she got one of the old fashioned books that they loved. Not once in the story did she say out loud “ I wish I had what everybody else had.” One example of the theme was, “We had few toys or books, most were hand me downs … but we were happy for what we had.” This shows the theme of her being grateful because, unlike the other kids she wore worn clothing, read worn out books, played with worn out toys, but was still happy in the end.
Have you ever thought of which is better, the cat or the dog? For many years there has been a big debate of cats versus dogs. People might pick a dog to have a friendly companion by their side or people might pick a cat to have a calm loving pet that is quiet. Different people have different perspectives on this topic but overall cats are better. Cats are better than dogs because they can provide health benefits, they are easier to take care of, and they are less dangerous than dogs.
Cats can provide many benefits. One of these benefits is that they are less dangerous than dogs. One piece of evidence is “Dog bites pose a serious health risk to our communities and society. More than 4.5 million people are bitten by dogs each year in the United States, and more than 800,000 receive medical attention for dog bites, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC). At least half of those bitten are children" (amva). This 4.5 million bites a year is so much more than the mere cat bites, at 400,000 a year. This would show dogs are more dangerous because they bite you more often and can even send you to the hospital. Dogs also have sharper teeth, faster, and they have a 1.5% kill rate. This shows that cats are less dangerous than dogs.
Another benefit a cat can provide is you waste less money on supplies and you also waste less time. One piece of evidence is “The average cost to own a dog is about $125-$825 monthly “(thespurcepets). This is an extremely high cost considering that the cats yearly cost is about $634 dollars. Speaking from this evidence, to own a dog for a year (bathe them, walk them, take care of them) you would have to spend $1500 at the least and $9000 at the most. Another point is that for dogs, when they have to use the bathroom you have to go outside on a walk so they can finish their business. On the other hand, a cat can be potty trained on a litter box so you can save more time.
One of the best benefits is that cats provide health benefits. One of these health benefits is it can lower your blood pressure and also make you more calm. One piece of evidence supports this is, “Scientific evidence also shows that a cat's purr can calm your nervous system and lower your blood pressure. Cat owners have been reported to carry a lower risk for heart disease and stroke. Prevent allergies” (helpguide.org). This shows that not only can cats provide benefits to lower your blood pressure and help your nervous system, it can also help prevent heart disease and other things. On the other hand dogs can have benefits but not as close as the one cats can provide. Such as dogs can offer lower blood pressure too but cats already have that plus more. This is showing that having a cat would be significantly greater than owning a dog. Another piece of evidence is that, “THEIR PURRING HELPS TO HEAL BONES, TENDONS AND MUSCLES” (goodnet.org). This is showing that their purs can also help heal injuries, which dogs can’t do. And not to mention, dogs bark can be scary and loud while cats purr can be calming and quiet.
Others might mention that dogs are better than cats. People might say that because of the health benefits that dogs can bring to a person or family. One of those benefits are “Dog owners have stronger immune systems” ( purina.co.uk). Yes, this is true but cats can also provide this plus more. Cats can offer soothing purrs that can lower your blood pressure, they can help you sleep at night, or even help you recover from an injury. Everything that a dog can benefit, a cat can too and more than it. Another piece of evidence for dogs is “Dog owners can have less chances to get a heart attack” (purina.co.uk). However, a cat can offer this and also while they are soothing your heart they can also help you deal with stress, prevent allergies, and can make you happier. One last thing that a cat can do is get rid of those pesky rats that are always coming into your home. A cat can be a natural hunter, which makes animal invaders scared of them, some examples of animals that can be afraid are: rats, birds, flies, and sometimes even spiders. Yes, a dog can provide benefits but in the long run a cat will do the same and give you even more advantages than a dog would. This would show that a cat is better than a dog.
In conclusion, cats are better than dogs in many ways. Whether it’s for health benefits, which costs less money to take care of, or even if they are less dangerous. All of those are some of the many reasons and benefits on why cats are better than dogs. Also, if my argument is correct then, people all over the world will be more joyful. This is since they have less blood pressure, their nervous system is calm, and have less strokes and heart attacks. Also don't forget, people will be more happy which would lead to the decline in deaths all over the world. This is what would happen if my argument is correct. Remember, cats are better than dogs!

People Are Motivated To Do Bad Things Because
People are sought out to do bad things for various reasons. People exposed In the “Milgram experiment” people are motivated by being revealed to authority. In “Lather and Nothing Else” by Hernando Tellez, the barber was motivated by self-image. Others might think differently from this because they see that there are “bigger” things that motivate people to do bad things; this however is all wrong. The things that motivate people to do bad things are, rapacity, self image and exposure to authority.
[Supporting Paragraphs] One of the big reasons people are motivated to do bad things is because of rapacity. This means that people would be motivated to do bad things because of greed. This is shown in “Button,Button” when Norma was willing to kill the random person for money and she didn’t think it was murder (Matheson). This is showing rapacity because she was willing to kill that person for money and was trying not to double think it. This also backs up the claim that people are motivated to do bad things because of rapacity since she is motivated to do this action because of greed. She is thinking about money over a person's life.
The other main reason why people are motivated to do bad things is because of self image. This means that people are motivated to do bad things because they want to protect their self image; how one views themselves. This is shown in, “Lather And Nothing Else”, when the barber could have killed the very evil man but could not kill him because it would ruin his image as a barber (Téllez). This shows he's trying to protect his image (self-image) since The barber does not want to kill this man who had killed dozens of school children. This motivates people to do bad things because people want to protect themselves, their image.
The last reason people are motivated to do bad things is because of exposure to authority. This means that people would do bad things because somebody of a higher status or authority told them to. This was shown during the “Milgram Experiment”, when the people kept shocking the man on the chair even though they knew if they kept going it would kill the man. They kept going because a man in a coat kept telling them to and that they would take responsibility (Burak). This shows that exposure to authority is one of the main reasons that motivate people to do the wrong thing because they are scared of the authority figure that is commanding them to do these things. This would show that exposure to authority is one of the main reasons that cause people to do bad things because the people did not stop even though they knew it was killing somebody.
Others might think differently from this because they see that there are “bigger” things that motivate people to do bad things. They might say people are motivated by money or other things. They might bring up the point that Norma wanted to kill that man for money, she had money on her head (Matheson). This is wrong because if you are motivated by money you are close to being motivated by greed. This is shown in “Button,Button” because she thought of the money, she would not have wanted this money if she had not been greedy. This is since she wanted the money, which can show greed.
[Conclusion] Rapacity, revealed to authority and self image are the main motivators that motivate people to do immoral things. This is shown in Button,Button since Norma was motivated by rapacity and thinking about herself. If my claim is correct, then the world will be different. This is since the world would know what are the main causes for bad things and try to avoid it . This shows that exposure to authority is one of the main reasons that motivate people to do the wrong
