Have you ever wondered why you have a certain taste in music? Maybe the reason isn’t because Dua Lipa’s hit song is the latest on the radio. Actually, the reason is SCIENCE. And it isn’t complex! Anything from the history of music to the types of genres of music to the music people listen to; any of it can be considered as musicology!

“The word musicology literally means "the study of music," encompassing all aspects of music in all cultures and all historical periods. In practice, musicology includes a wide variety of methods of studying music as a scholarly endeavor; although the study of music performance is an important facet of musicology, music performance itself is a different area of study.” Musicology can be as simple as listening to the music the people in your class listen to.

Studying musicology often leads to jobs in research, professorships and even museums. It might not sound like musicologists are all that important, but without them, much of what we currently know and understand about music would be lost.
Ethnomusicology
Ethnomusicology
Ethnomusicology is the study of music but with the added aspects of the culture and tradition of the people who make it. It may not sound all that different from musicology, but without ethnomusicologists we wouldn’t have a lot of cultural knowledge we have today, not just about music but about the people that created the music.

I Love You 3000 by Stephanie Poetri
I love you 3000, as in the name, is a love song. Also a major reference to iron man with the phrase itself “I love you 3000.” She wants to get married with her current boyfriend and figures out from her friends that he is indeed proposing! She can't stop thinking about him and then begins to say "Baby take my hand, I want you to be my husband." These are the lyrics I have heard the song from. Some other versions may go like, “Baby take my hand I want you to be my boyfriend.” Either or still brings the same message. She wants them to be her partner. I Love You 3000 is a really great song in my opinion. Maybe I convinced you to listen to it as well!
Producer Man by Lyn Lapid
Producer man is a great song, it talks about how a girl was being controlled/brainwashed by the producer man. It may seem real but the only real thing real is the money produced. This producer man makes this woman into someone she isn't. She changed completely, moving to Hollywood. Signed her life away to him. She can not escape him, she now has to trust him with this deal. Now let us make a deal. You listen to this song, and it will soon be one of your favorite songs. Or not, who knows.
Double Take by Dhruv
Double take is another love song. Describing how he felt some type of love. More lyrics say “Boy you got me hooked up to something. Who can say that they saw us coming.” Showing that he is ready to commit his love to him. He then asks “ Tell me, do you feel the love?” He wants to take his shot with this person. All he thinks is about this person. Only thinking about him when everyone is around him. Double take is one of my personal favorites. Maybe it will become one of yours too!
The Red Means I Love You by Madds Buckley
If you love Himiko Toga from MHA you will love this song. This song reminds most listeners of Toga. And Madds Buckley made the song to represent her as well. Saying “The red means I love you,” reference to blood. This song is not really a love song. Just showing how someone is confessing to their love of blood. Saying " My insides are red and yours are too. And the red on my face is matching you." referencing the blood in our body and organs. She continues to sing, “Thank goodness you’re bleeding, what a wonderful feeling. You’re down and pleading. My head is just reeling.” She is going insane showing her love. This may not be your song but if you want to try something new here is your chance!

Location is a love song. Where this guy wants the girl’s location so he can go there and get to know her better. He really likes her yet there are too many obstacles to actually be in a relationship with them. He tries to confess his love yet they're too far apart to actually do it physically. To show his true love he wants this girl's location to make it more romantic. Everytime he was with her, he felt that it was meant to be. Saying, “To understand that things go a little bit better when you plan it.” There are other songs by him that I love as well. If you don’t like this song maybe check out his other songs!
