1. What made you choose this job as a teacher?
The summer is off.
2. Out of all the many other schools, why did you choose Dyker Heights IS.201?
I chose to work at Dyker because I heard it was a really great school. I actually worked in the South Bronx for five years. That was a big challenge for me and it affected my choice.
3. What kind of improvements do you think should be made about your job?
I love Dyker Heights the way it is. But, I would love for us to be a closer community.
4. What’s it like being a teacher?
Its constant work. My to-do list is never done, it only gets longer and longer, but there are moments that make it worth it and there are some that make it funny.
5. How long have you been working here at Dyker Heights IS.201 and do you plan to keep on working?
This is my 3rd year at Dyker Heights. I live close by-I walk here actually. I would love to keep on working here.

What made you want to become a Spanish teacher?
I was doing Drug Prevention in District 20 and an opening for a Bilingual Teacher opened up and I applied. I loved kids and thought how important it is to know and speak a 2nd language.
What made you want to do the puppets?
The puppets came to me when I was trying to think of how I could engage my students in class during the pandemic. Have them writing and speaking in Spanish and it being fun.
What inspires you to keep teaching spanish?
When I see a sparkle in a student's eye. When I see students enjoying Spanish. When I make a connection with a student or a class.
Does teaching the same thing every year annoy you?
No, it doesn’t because every class and student is different.
Does asking the same questions get boring?
No, because each class and student is different and the needs and questions are different. As a child, what were your dreams? I wanted to be a teacher.
Have you ever thought about quitting your job? Why?
The only reason I ever think of leaving my job, not quitting, is in the winter when I wish I’d live in a tropical country.
