Rogue One

9.75/10

By Brina Lin 812

“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” starts off with Galen Erso, Lyra Erso and their daughter Jyn Erso running away from imperial weapons. While fleeing, Lyra gets shot, Galen is captured and Jyn is forced to run and hide. Fast forward 13 years later and now Jyn, who was imprisoned, breaks out of an Imperial labor camp and is told to find information about the Death Star. The Death Star, a powerful super weapon that can wipe out an entire planet, is built by Jyn’s dad. Knowing this, Jyn meets with a rebel alliance officer, a reprogrammed Imperial droid and many more resistance fighters to steal Death Star’s plans all for the greater cause and the Rebel Alliance.

The movie “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”, directed by Gareth Edwards, is just a masterpiece! My favorite thing about this movie is that it's based on everyday people who are willing to fight for what they believe in. From the well-written characters to the beautiful backgrounds, I rate this movie a 9.75/10. It is a perfect blend of humor, sci-fi and action. I highly recommend this to anyone who likes adventure, comedy and space.

Stranger Things

9/10

By Siany Cintron 656

Stranger Things is a Netflix series based in Hawkins, Indiana in the 1980’s. A teen, Eleven, who has psychic powers managed to escape Hawkins National Laboratory. She joins the “nerdy group” with Mike, Dustin, Lucas, and Will to defeat The Demogorgon, The Mind Flayer, and other monsters while they all try to save Eleven from Dr. Brenner.

Stranger Things is a great show and movie series. It includes 4 seasons with 34 episodes total. Each episode is just under an hour but the last two episodes of season 4 are each 2 and a half hours long. It has a lot of details and each detail has a meaning, has to do with a part of the movie or is going to have a part in the movie. Our school, IS 201, The Madeleine Brennan School, did a Stranger Things day not too long ago on November 4th, 2022 for National Stranger Things Day, originally on November 6th. My honest opinion is it’s a very good show that can last you a while to watch. Over time, it became really popular to the point that it would be what everyone would talk about which I disliked. I would still definitly recommend this show to those who have never watched it. Overall, I would say it's a 9/10.

Penguins of Madagascar

*12 penguins/10*

By Brina Lin 812

10 years ago, 3 young penguins stumbled upon an egg rolling away from their colony. Without hesitation, they instantly try to rescue the penguins, jumping over leopard seals and protecting them from drifting icebergs. These 3 penguins are named Skipper, Ricco and Kowalski. They eventually reach the egg and adopt the baby penguin as their brother, Private. Fast forward 10 years and the Penguins are now the most skilled penguin spies ever to be hatched. They join alliances with the North Wind, the most fierce and heroic organization, who help animals that are unable to help themselves. Together, Skipper, Ricco, Kowalski and the North Wind try to take down the extremely jealous tentacled Octopus, named Dave, whose goal is to take over the world.

IMDB rated Penguins of Madagascar a 6.6/10. I personally disagree with this. I think this movie should be worth the full 10/10 stars. Actually, I'd rate it 12/10! The humor and action alone already help earn its rating. This movie is fully adventure packed and incredibly hilarious. If you’re ever having a bad day, come see the Penguins of Madagascar and you will instantly feel better. I recommend this to any person of any age!

Matilda (1996)

By Siany Cintron 656

This movie is about a young girl named Matilda Wormwood. At a very young age, she has an incredibly high IQ and is very intelligent. This IQ is higher than people twice her age! People, especially her family, do not recognize Matilda. They ignore her and do not think very highly of her. Matilda escapes the world by reading and practicing her “special skills.” She exercised her mind so much that she developed telekinetic powers, for example, moving things with her eyes and closing doors with her mind. When she finally attends school, her wonderful teacher, Ms. Honey is amazed by her smartness, her mind, and eventually even her powers. Ms. Honey and Matilda take on her uncaring parents and the evil school principal, Ms. Trunchbull.

I absolutely recommend this movie! Not only does it have meaning to it, but it flows very nicely. It is interesting, funny, happy and sad all at once. This movie is a family oriented and definitely a comical film. The movie was originally released on July 28, 1996 and it’s an hour and 42 minutes long. You can watch Matilda on Prime Video, Vudu, Redbox, or Apple TV. It’s also on VCR and DVD. On December 9, 2022, a newer, more modern version of Matilda came out. This recent version is more musical. Our school, I.S. 201, The Madeleine Brennan School, is recreating our school play this year based on Matilda Jr. The first time I watched this movie, I was shocked that this little 6 year old was smarter than me and most people I know. For those who haven’t seen it yet, I highly suggest watching the original Matilda. I look forward to watching I.S 201’s version of Matilda in their school play. In my opinion, I would rate it 10/10 stars.

Minions: The Rise of Gru

By Siany Cintron 656

The Rise of Gru is about Young Gru in the 1970’s trying to join a supervillain group called the Vicious 6 after they kicked out their legendary leader. The interview turns disastrous and Gru and his Minions are now on the run with the Vicious 6 on their tails.

The movie Minions:The Rise of Gru was a really good movie. It came out July 1, 2022. It’s 1 hour and 30 minutes long and you can watch it on Peacock TV, ROW8, Prime Video, Vudu, Redbox or Apple TV on your Roku device. I enjoyed it and thought it was very entertaining. I love how everything ties together and how it grabs the viewers attention. The only thing that I disliked is you could definitely predict what was going to happen next. There was not much suspense, mystery, or guessing for the viewer. I would still recommend this movie to others. I would rate it 9/10 stars.

Avatar: The Way of Water

10/10 *PG-13*

By Tennie Cheah 852

Avatar: The Way of the Water finally came out after 13 long years of waiting. This movie had amazing graphics and designs. The plot was beautiful and touching. The movie starts off with Jake Sully and Neytiri playing with their kids (Kiri, Neteyam, Lo’ak, and Tuktirey).

The “sky people” had invaded the forest; forcing the family and tribe to seek refuge in the mountains. Jake finds out the Colonel isn’t dead and is actually hunting for Jake and Jake’s family.

Jake takes his family to the islands in the ocean to try to lose the Colonel but he’ll later find out he can’t run away for long and will have to fight for his new home and his family.
