Marietta Baumblit 852

Art is always great for all people! Here is what Joseph Chan from the art club has to say!

  • Who are your biggest artistic influences?

“I don't really do art much but I just joined because I wanna be good at art, but some influences include nature and what other people draw.”

  • Describe how art is important to society?

“Art is important to society because the world is sometimes dark and has no light, but art makes the world brighter and connects people together.”

  • What motivates you to create art?

“What motivates me to create is nature and friends.”

  • Where do you find inspiration?

“Those who are better than me make me feel that I have to be like them so they give me inspiration.”

Interviewer: Do you get art blocks often? If you do, what do you do to pass it?

Ms.Pizza: “When I get art blocks, I start drawing things around me that I love, or something simple like a salt shaker, my cat, or an old shoe. When it comes to art, what inspires me is how light creates texture and shadows. That's what I love about art”.

Interviewer: What is your greatest inspiration in art?

Ms.Pizza: “My favorite artist is Caravaggio, I try to emulate the way he draws; like he did the grotesque. He was one of the most famous Renaissance painters; he inspired a whole movement for people to be looking at the light he did and to draw it like how he did too. I taught myself how to paint by copying his paintings. Whenever I feel I'm not being good enough, I look at his work and I try to think about where I started and what I’m doing wrong so I can crack my own mistakes because as an artist, when you’re at a school, you have to help yourself because self-assessment is really important just like your teachers teach you guys.”

Interviewer: What is your favorite tool/color to use in art?

Ms.Pizza: “Black. Black has power. The human eye wants to see two things: the color red and it's contrast. The highest contrast to red is between black and white. So I'm sure to put red, black and white in every one of my art. For the tool, I love using oil paint.”
