In December, our 2nd and 3rd graders reflected on what it means to show kindness and understanding in everyday situations. We discussed simple ways we can care for others, like helping a classmate who is struggling, including someone who feels left out, giving compliments, listening when a friend is upset, being patient, sharing supplies, and apologizing when we’ve hurt someone’s feelings.
Students learned that kindness can be shown through small actions, thoughtful words, and noticing when someone might need comfort or support.
Each student received a Christmas tree coloring page.
Inside each ornament, they wrote one way they can show kindness or understanding. Then they decorated their trees with color and creativity.
This activity helped students reflect on real ways they can spread compassion at school, at home, and in their community, especially during the holiday season.
Try this at home:
Ask your child, “What act of kindness did you choose for one of your ornaments?”
