In our SEL (Social Emotional Learning) lessons, students are learning that life is like a road. Along the way, we all hit bumps, moments that feel frustrating, confusing, or hard.
When we hit those bumps, we can make:
Red Light Choices 🚫 → getting “stuck” in the problem (like yelling, giving up, or refusing to try).
Green Light Choices ✅ → using our tools to keep moving forward (like taking deep breaths, asking for help, or using positive self-talk).
The goal of these lessons is to help students understand that everyone faces challenges, and it’s okay! What matters is learning how to use our tools to make green light choices so we can keep moving forward.
đź’ˇ You can try this at home:
Ask your child: “What’s a green light choice you made today?”
Practice a tool together, like taking 3 deep breaths or using positive self-talk (“I can do this,” “I’ll try my best”).
Celebrate when your child uses their tools, this builds confidence and helps the learning stick!
