At this point of the year you have photographed a wide range of subjects. All the subjects were assigned to you. It is now time to hone your artistic voice. You will choose a subject matter and photograph this subject matter for the last three assignments. In the end you should have a cohesive body of work consisting of 30 images about or relating to your subject. Write a paragraph that includes your subject and your plan to execute the assignment.
I plan on doing my concentration topic on street photography. I really enjoyed getting out of my comfort zone when we went on the field trip last year. I was shocked by what I was able to capture that was already set in real life. I plan on going downtown a few days during different times of the day to get variety. I also plan on figuring out what events are going on in the week to figure out what might be the most interesting events to capture.
For my concentration, I want to do black and white portraits. I’m not quite sure if I am only going to do female yet, because I have not done many male photos yet, so I kind of want to try that as well. I like the photos I’ve been taking recently that are more simple and natural, and play more with light and chiaroscuro. I look through many Pinterest folders of black and white portraits to gain inspiration, and then go from there. I either want to do this idea or do the idea of color portraits with matching backgrounds, but I am leaning more towards black and white, even though everyone else will probably do this as well. :(( ALSOOOO I plan to take all of the portraits in the studio, because I am not much of a fan of natural lighting, but if I have to I will try natural lighting.
Photographing the LGBTQ+ students of SAA to show a different type of Panther Pride. THe photos will be taken in the studio and will consist of all types of students of the community showing their pride for their gender/sexual orientation. The shoot will consist of 5-15 students either posing with their flags, or other props to represent themselves. Some photos are going to be in b&w with the flags in color for emphasis. I’m really excited to do this, and have had this idea since you brought this up at the beginning of the year.
My concentration topic is going to be photos focusing on the female face. There will be something unique covering or placed on the face in each photo. I will achieve this by using objects including: paint, bubble wrap, light/shadow patterns, flowers, or even water, in order to cover or partially cover the face throughout each photo.
