Ceramics
Beginning Ceramics:
In this hands-on course you will learn the basics of hand-building, wheel throwing, glazing, and firing, while developing an understanding of ceramic materials and tools. Emphasis is placed on mastering foundational skills, including shaping, texturing, and decorating clay pieces, as well as understanding the various stages of the ceramic process. The class also encourages an appreciation for the history and cultural significance of ceramics, providing a well-rounded foundation for further study or personal artistic expression. Students will create original and high quality three dimensional artwork. We recently purchased a 3D clay printer for those students who might enjoy using new technology to build parts of your assignments. Please ask for information about this new tool.
Advanced Ceramics:
This course offers students the opportunity to further explore and refine their skills in clay, glazing, and firing methods. Students in this class engage in more complex projects, experimenting with various hand-building, wheel-throwing, and surface decoration techniques while developing a deeper understanding of ceramic materials and kiln processes. The course encourages artistic innovation, conceptual exploration, and craftsmanship, with an emphasis on creating functional and sculptural works. Students also learn about the historical, cultural, and contemporary contexts of ceramics, preparing them for professional-level work and exhibition.
AP 3D Studio Ceramics:
Is an advanced, college-level course designed for students who are passionate about exploring the world of three-dimensional art. Throughout the course, students will focus on both the process and the product, refining their understanding of composition, craftsmanship, and personal expression. In AP 3D Studio Art, students create a portfolio of work, due in the spring, that showcases their ability to manipulate space, form, texture and volume in sculpture, clay, installations or other 3D media. The portfolio is submitted to the College Board for review and college credit consideration.
