A Community Schools Awareness Campaign is an intentional, ongoing communication and engagement strategy designed to ensure that students, families, staff, partners, and community members understand what a Community School is, how the Community Schools approach supports the whole child, and how they can participate in the work. Rather than being a single announcement or event, the campaign creates consistent opportunities throughout the school year to communicate the purpose, priorities, resources, partnerships, opportunities, and impact of Community Schools. Through multiple forms of communication and engagement, the campaign helps make Community Schools visible, understandable, and accessible to everyone connected to the school community.
Community Schools are most effective when the people they serve understand the work, see themselves within it, and know how to participate. An Awareness Campaign helps build that shared understanding by making information about programs, resources, partnerships, events, decision-making opportunities, and student and family supports easier to access. It also creates opportunities to elevate student, family, staff, and partner voices; celebrate successes; communicate progress toward shared priorities; and demonstrate how Community Schools investments are creating opportunities for students and families. Consistent communication strengthens trust, increases participation, reduces confusion about available resources, and helps ensure that Community Schools becomes part of the school's culture rather than being viewed as a separate program or initiative.
An Awareness Campaign supports the Community Schools approach by strengthening communication, transparency, engagement, shared ownership, and participation. It helps connect students and families with integrated supports and opportunities, encourages family and community participation, highlights partnerships and community resources, and creates greater understanding of collaborative leadership and shared decision-making. Just as importantly, awareness is not intended to be one-way communication. The campaign creates opportunities for the school to share, listen, engage, and respond, allowing community feedback and participation to continually inform the work.
At its core, a Community Schools Awareness Campaign is about more than promoting programs or sharing information. It is about creating a shared understanding of who we are, what resources and opportunities are available, what we are working toward together, and how every member of the school community can have a voice in that work.Awareness creates connection, connection creates participation, and participation builds shared ownership—helping ensure that Community Schools is not simply something happening at a school, but an approach that is understood, experienced, and shaped by the entire school community.
