Graduation honors can be represented in a variety of ways. Stoles/Sashes and honor cords are the best way to represent what you have earned throughout your years in high school. Whether you’re an academic overachiever or a club leader, outstanding students earn recognition with Stoles/Sashes and honor cords. Your diploma is the sundae, and your stole and cord is the cherry on top.
Valedictorian - SAHS student ranked #1 in their class and having the highest academic achievements of the class by the end of 1st semester senior year. Student will receive a medal, plague and/or stole and will deliver the valedictory speech at the graduation ceremony.
Salutatorian - SAHS student who ranks second highest in a graduating class by the end of 1st semester senior year. Student will receive a medal, plaque and/or stole and will deliver the salutatory speech at the graduation ceremony.
The selection process identifies and ranks student according to their weighted Academic Grade Point Average in grades 9 through 12 earned in semester and year -long courses.
In the event that there is a tie, the next criteria is Total Credits Earned and then AP Credits Earned. If there is still a tie, the Academic Grade Point Average from 10-12 will be the deciding factor.
Principal's Honor Roll
Students earned an academic GPA of 4.0 or higher at the semester.
Honor Roll
Students earned an academic GPA of 3.5 to 3.99 at the semester.
Saint Scholar
Students earned an academic GPA of 3.0 to 3.49 at the semester.
Aspiring Saints
Students earned an academic GPA of 2.5 to 2.99 at the semester.
The California Scholarship Federation (known as CSF) is a state-wide academic honors organization whose purpose is to recognize students who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement. CSF Membership is based on qualifying grades that are earned each semester.
Any student maintaining active membership in CSF for four of their final six semesters, one of which must be senior year qualifying with senior semester grades, will qualify as a Seal bearer at graduation. Seal bearers will receive a CSF pin, CSF seal on their diploma, and Gold CSF stole and tassel to be worn at graduation.

All students at SAHS have the opportunity to earn stoles and cords in specific academic subjects and participation in programs. To earn an academic cord(s), students must be enrolled and complete 4 years of study earning a C or better in a academic subject listed below.
CSF - Gold Cord
Foreign Language - Red Cord
Math - Baby Blue Cord
NJROTC - Blue and Gold Cord
SanArts/VAPA - Purple Cord
Science - Black Cord
SAHS AVID students that have been enrolled and participated in the college preparatory program for 3 or more years will qualify for an AVID White stole or cord to be worn at graduation.
All SAHS students are required to complete 40 hours of community service. Students that have gone above and beyond their service to the community can earn a cord or stole to be worn at graduation.
100 Hours or more - Red/White/Blue Cord
300 Hours or more - White & Red Trim Stole
The film academy is an arts, industry and English academic integrate course pathway. In the first 2 years of the pathway, students develop their storytelling and writing skills and apply it to the filmmaking process. By their 3rd and 4th year, students utilize their research and knowledge of filmmaking to address documentary storytelling, and experimental design in a senior thesis. Every year students enter their work in film festivals and screen their films for college and community members. In order to achieve completion, students must participate in at least 3 years of the film pathway with English and production courses, and hold a 2.5 GPA or higher. Students will earn a Grey stole to be worn at graduation.
The Elizabeth G Macias Legal Studies Academy is a State sanctioned public high school feeder into "The California LAW Pathway". California LAW is a community college to university to law school pipeline established by the California State Bar and California Dept. of Education to bring diversity into the careers of law. The Academy is multiple collaborative partnerships with a variety of professionals who provide intensive mentoring, internships, and assistance in bridging the gap for Santa Ana students to achieve the careers within the court system. The students participate in rigorous mock trial competitions, host peer courts, complete case law driven essays, attend guest speaker series, seminars, and field trips. Upon completion of the program, students will earn a Black stole to be worn at graduation.
Students compete at the local and national levels in several tournaments through the year. Tournaments are held in OC and LA County, national tournaments are held at Bradley University in Peoria, Illionois, Glenbrooks schools in Chicago, Illionois, Harvard in Boston, Massachusetts, and the National Speech and Debate Tournament is held in a new state every year. While all students compete at the local level, spots at travel tournaments are earned through hard work, dedication, positive attitude, and through performances at local tournaments. Santa Ana High school is a nationally ranked team and is in the top 50 best teams in the country. SAHS is the National State Champions and the OC Champions for 2021. Overall, it is a very diverse program, and we have students from all different types of groups who just want a space to find their own voices. It can be a very demanding program, but students tend to love being a part of it and find that it affords them many opportunities! Students earn trophies and medals at tournaments.
Associated Student Body is designed to develop our future leaders of tomorrow. They are the ambassadors for pride and spirit and lead each class as the voice for their fellow saints in creating activities and programs. ASB positions are elected by the student body. Students participating in ASB for all 4 years and represent the ASB Cabinet as a senior (if they were not in the class for all 4 years) while maintaining a GPA of 2.5 will earn a Columbia Blue stole to be worn at graduation.
Dance - Students that have participated and completed 4 years on Dance Team at SAHS will earn a Black stole to be worn at graduation.
Freshman Mentor Program - Students that have participated in FMP will earn a grey cord to be worn at graduation.
NJROTC - Students that have participated in NJROTC have the opportunity to purchase a stole to be worn at graduation, however will receive a Blue and Gold Cord to be worn at graduation.
