The Apex program is an alternative learning program designed to help students to obtain their high school diploma outside the traditional high school route. This program offers a unique opportunity for students to take online courses for high school credit.
Additional courses are available through an evening high school program called BRIDGE (Night School), provided in collaboration between SAUSD and SAC. Students are enrolled in bridge if they are credit deficient or to repeat a grade for college. Grade and credit for the repeated course are added to the student’s transcript upon successful completion.
SAUSD has three Alternative Educational Option
Lorin Griset High School
Chavez High School
Reach Academy
Be 16 or older "at risk".
Enrollment are arranged through a referral process initiated by site administrators/counselors at the traditional high school for students deficient in credits.
Students must complete the SAUSD graduation requirements.
Summer school is designed for students attempting to recuperate credit for academic classes failed throughout the school year(s) or repeating coursework for a better grade in hopes of university admission. Summer school begins first week June to mid July. A maximum of 10 credits is available for students; 5 credits per 3 week period.
Independent study is an alternative instructional strategy. Students work independently, according to a written agreement and under the general supervision of a credentialed teacher. Students follow the district-adopted curriculum and meet the district graduation requirements, independent study offers flexibility to meet individual student needs, interests, and styles of learning. It also is used as a dropout prevention program. ISP is located on the campus of Sierra Intermediate School. ISP is not a fast and quick way of earning credits.
