Advanced Recorder Study

Unless you have your Black Belt, do not attempt these songs. This requires techniques and notes not even played in Recorder Karate 1. However, those who have successfully completed their Black Belt are ready to move on to more Advanced Recorder Study.

Watch the animated fingering to get a hold of the pitches being played. Notice the notes played where only half of the hole on the back is covered by the thumb? Also, you will be playing a low C. We discussed this in class, but it was not in our songs for Recorder Karate. You will notice Baroque Fingering and German Fingering on some of the songs. You play Baroque Fingering. What is not covered in Recorder Karate, will be covered in our classroom study.

The songs below, from You Can Play It, have the regular speed and then a very slow version. The slow version is the place to start to see how you move from one pitch/rhythm to another. Learn the slow version first and then you can speed it up and will make fewer mistakes.

Below this box are several Advanced Playing options from You Can Play It. Your challenge is to try learning one of these songs once you have finished all 9 belts. It would take you all summer to learn one of these well enough to test.

This is a fun, but very advanced song. Many high notes that you have not played. However, if you can get this song learned and played, WOW!!!

It would take all summer to learn this song. However, if you do, you will earn 10 Dojo points a week for the first 4 weeks. 40 Dojo points total! Plus a chance to play a solo in one of our concerts.*

*if you learn and successfully play more than one of these songs, each additional song would be added to the next month, and so forth. Do not attempt to learn all of these songs. Pick one and work on it.
