Homemade Instruments

Homemade Music Instruments

Each year, our third grade students make musical instruments at home from items around the house. The majority of those made are shaker style instruments where they can use water bottles and beans or plastic eggs and rice to make shakers. Last year, we had several guitar looking instruments. You can see by the pictures below that there are many different types of instruments that can be made.

Students can use coffee cans, vegetable cans, boxes, tubes, utensils, pots/pans, shells, straws and all kinds of stuff to make an instrument.

If a student does not make one, they are not penalized. If they make one, they receive extra Dojo Points for their project. On Wednesday and Thursday (October 30/31) the students will get to do a Show and Tell with their instruments during their music class.
