3rd Grade Music

Third grade students begin playing the recorder. You will pay $5 for your child's recorder. We order recorders in September and begin playing in October/November. These go back and forth to school. We strongly advise that you buy one for home and one for school. We continue playing recorders in grades 4&5.

3rd grade class time is 10:25-11:10. We do block scheduling, so each student has music two days a week and PE two days a week. On Fridays, students do half and half with PE/Music.

In the spring, the 3rd grade will attend the San Angelo Symphony Concert for SAISD and surrounding area students. They will prepare for this in January/February.

One year, Maestro Hector Guzman came to our music class and it was awesome!

In 2017-2018, our 3rd graders only had about two months to work on their recorders, but we covered a lot of ground. One of our 3rd grade boys, Micah Cortez, was the first student to complete their Black Belt in the 8 years that I have been teaching at McGill. It was awesome to see his videos each time he turned in a Belt Test. He was also very diligent in turning in his practice sheets and earned approximately 50 Dojo points from those alone! To honor his hard work, he was presented with a wood laminate Yamaha Recorder at the Awards Presentations. Was he ever surprised and excited!
