Visiting universities which are of interest to you (ideally during the summer, or another school break) is a fantastic way to get a feel of a campus and get a sense of whether it would be the right 'fit’ for you. Whilst this is understandably not always possible for everyone, if you can make a visit, here are some resources for making the most of your university campus tour:
Try to visit contrasting universities. For example, visit a campus in a big city, and then visit a more rural-based university campus. This way, you can compare the differences and consider which you may prefer.
Visit universities with different entry requirements. Do not only visit your 'reach' or dream universities, which may all have the highest / most challenging entry requirements for admission!
Tips for planning your visits:
Plan your visit schedule as far in advance as you can. Check open days / open house events, book tours in advance, and check if other universities nearby might be possible to visit in addition to those you are already booking in!
Plan your questions in advance. Research the university's website, so that you ask questions you cannot simply google! See the questions resource at the bottom of this webpage for more ideas!
Plan to explore the local area, city/town, and use the public transport around the university campus. This way, you experience the local setting as well as seeing the university campus. Try out some of the common journeys you may need to take - e.g. from the nearest airport, to the nearest town / city from campus, and visiting the campus' local supermarket/grocers, and food destinations!
