Announcements & Reminders
Grade 12 (Class of 2024)
Seniors - keep going! You are almost there and we are rooting for you during your final remaining exams!
Remember that your exit form needs to be signed off by your A&C Counselor by the deadline of May 17th. We look forward to celebrating with you all at Prom on the same date!
For a recap on summer availability and results release time in July, please refer back to the slides here and see the Grade 12 page for more results-related guidance here.
Keep in contact with your A&C Counselor for any final applications you may be submitting this semester, and do keep us updated of your plans (including all decisions you receive back!) in the coming months. We are here to support you!
Grade 11
(Class of 2025)
Building your Cialfo longlist, completing your brag sheets for requesting your recommendations, and arranging family meetings for college planning are now all well underway!
You can make 1:1 meeting bookings with your A&C Counselor using their Google Calendar link below (scroll down on this page and click on your A&C Counselor's name).
Thank you for joining us Monday May 6th for the initial essay workshop sessions. You can now access the slides for both US essay writing and UK / Letters of Motivation writing here.
Grade 10
(Class of 2026)
In Semester One, Grade 10 has grown a little more serious about academics while keeping up with other G10 core responsibilities -- Personal Project, Service as Action, and Course Selection, to name a few.
The transition to a junior is akin to moving from summer to autumn. Let's take a moment to pause and reflect, harvesting key lessons from the past semester to fully embrace what the new year has to offer. We wish you the best of luck!
Grade 9
(Class of 2027)
Let's use the last few weeks to finish strong, while preparing for the next (and final) quarter.
We look forward to getting to know you in the remaining semester! Please fill out this G9 Getting to Know You questionnaire if you haven't done so yet.
Book an appointment!
Make an appointment with your Academic/College Counselor using the Google Calendar booking system. Booking links are provided below.
How to make the most out of college VISITS
BEFORE THE EVENT:
DO YOUR RESEARCH. Make sure the questions are NOT already covered in the admission brochures or website. It’s important to consider details and insider information that is not as easily available.
You may also enquire from your College Counselor if there are any SAIS graduates attending the university.
Take a virtual tour if one is available on the school’s website. Check out the location and surroundings on googleearth.com
DURING THE EVENT:
Connect on a human level -- go up to the representative, smile, give a firm handshake and introduce yourself. Ask that exhausted rep how they’re doing. More than anything, it’s about your presence.
Please be mindful if there are other people also waiting to talk to the representative.
Be sure to listen to the answers college reps give other students as someone else might have already asked one of your questions. Representatives appreciate it when you do not ask a question that they just answered a moment ago.
Before asking questions, make sure to indicate whether you are what they consider an international or domestic/home student.
Ask the same opinion-type, open-ended questions of a variety of college reps (and don’t be surprised or dismayed if you get different answers!)
i.e. What is the best rumor you've heard about this school? Any truth to it?
i.e. What is the ONE thing you would change about college? Or where does the school need to improve? What is the #1 complaint from students?
i.e. What type of student do you feel really fits in at your school?
It is ALWAYS a good idea to jot down your general impressions as soon as you can, and preferably before your talk to the next school representative. Your memories will invariably run together unless you take a few moments to write down your likes (and dislikes) of what you heard about.
Here is a list of recommended questions to ask during the fair. Be selective about those that are important to YOU as you are on a whirlwind tour of a dozen schools.
