Welcome to Mrs. Salem's PRIVATE Website
Objective:
Students will set specific personal growth goals aligned with their mission statement (academic, personal, and social), track their progress over four days, and create visual representations of their achievements using Google Sheets and Google Slides.
Part 1: Setting Goals
Instructions:
1.1 Review your personal mission statement and identify key areas you want to improve in line with your goals and values. Choose one goal in each of the following areas:
Academic Goal: Examples could include completing homework on time, improving test scores, or studying for a certain number of hours each day.
Personal Goal: Examples could include improving time management, exercising regularly, or reading for a set amount of time daily.
Social Goal: Examples could include helping classmates, spending more time with family, or participating in group activities.
1.2 Define measurable outcomes for each goal. These should be specific and quantifiable so that progress can be tracked easily. For example:
Academic: “I will study for 1 hour every day.”
Personal: “I will exercise for 30 minutes daily.”
Social: “I will help a classmate with homework 3 times this week.”
Part 2: Data Collection (4 days)
Instructions:
2.1 Track your progress daily in Google Sheets for each of the three goals. Create a table to log your daily activities and success in meeting your goals.
For example:
2.2 Organize your data at the end of the fourth day. You should have clear records of your performance in each area.
Part 3: Creating Charts and Graphs
Instructions:
3.1 Create charts in Google Sheets to represent your progress:
Use a bar chart to represent daily or weekly totals for each goal (e.g., study hours, exercise minutes, number of times you helped a classmate).
Create a pie chart to show the proportion of time or effort spent on each of the three goals over the course of the week.
Example of a bar chart:
X-axis: Days of the week
Y-axis: Hours/minutes or occurrences
Example of a pie chart:
Categories: Time spent on academic, personal, and social goals over the week.
Example 1: Bar Chart
Title: Weekly Progress for Study, Exercise, and Helping a Classmate
X-axis (Horizontal): Days of the week (Friday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, etc.)
Y-axis (Vertical): Number of hours or occurrences (e.g., hours of study, minutes of exercise, times helped a classmate)
Data:
Monday: 2 hours study, 30 minutes exercise, helped classmate 1 time
Tuesday: 1.5 hours study, 40 minutes exercise, helped classmate 2 times
Wednesday: 2 hours study, 20 minutes exercise, helped classmate 0 times
Etc.
After inputting your data, create a bar chart to visually represent your totals for each goal on each day.
Example 2: Pie Chart
Title: Proportion of Time Spent on Academic, Personal, and Social Goals
Categories:
Academic Goal: Total study hours over the week (e.g., 10 hours)
Personal Goal: Total exercise minutes over the week (e.g., 150 minutes)
Social Goal: Total number of times you helped a classmate over the week (e.g., 6 times)
Create a pie chart to represent the proportion of time or effort spent on each of these goals throughout the week.
Part 4: Use Google Slides to present your data:
Choose a Relevant Theme
Select a visually appealing and appropriate theme for your presentation.
Introduce Your Project
Provide an introduction explaining your goals, the reasons behind your choices, and how they align with your mission statement.
Incorporate Data from Google Sheets
Copy and paste relevant charts from Google Sheets into your slides.
Ensure each chart is properly labeled with titles and explanations to help viewers understand how your actions support your mission statement.
Summarize Your Personal Progress
Design an engaging slide that highlights your progress throughout the week.
Write a Reflection (150–200 words)
Analyze Your Data: How does the data reflect your efforts to achieve the goals outlined in your mission statement?
Identify Trends: Were there specific days when you were more productive in certain areas? What patterns did you notice?
Future Insights: How will this experience shape your approach to goal-setting and time management moving forward?
Sample Google Slide Presentations:
100-90 points: Exceptional work, meets all criteria at a high level.
89-80 points: Strong effort, with minor areas for improvement.
79-65 points: Needs improvement in multiple areas.
64 or below: Requires significant revision.
