When the Sky Goes Blue

When the Sky Goes Blue
By Christina Formby
When the sky goes blue
And my heart begins to shrink.
My mind is no longer my own
The darkness is not a metaphor for the sun that no longer wants to shine
The darkness is what surrounds me
My hopes
My dreams
My love
All have gone blue.
Today’s poem is brought to you by my seasonal affective disorder. Every fall, when the sun begins to set earlier and rise later, I become depressed. I am always surprised when it happens. Hoping that this year is different, well truthfully, I just forget. I’m too busy enjoying summer then fantasizing about all that I’ll do in the fall. Go to a pumpkin patch, attend the fall parade, visit the state fair! And then slowly, without warning I am no longer myself.
Anyway, I was very fortunate in the chapter I chose because it discusses making the outside, our physical environment, and turning it into a poem. Find what speaks to us and turn it into emotion. All of which I am more than willingly to do.
I hope you can feel my poem.
