Red
By Matthew Daiy
It is all I see,
It blackens my sky and clouds my thoughts,
It courses through my veins,
It pumps off my fists,
It slurs my words and spits out insults,
It consumes me,
It replaces my love with lust,
It collides with my rational and blurs the line I walk upon,
It is supposed to fade but it darkens to deeper hue,
It fills me up,
I’m walking blind now,
All I see is black,
I don’t see a way out.
There’s a spark,
He finds me,
I’m ready to defend myself,
I’ve been here before,
He pursues,
I’m not ready,
I’m scared.
He isn’t an enemy,
He opens his arms,
His light sears through my night,
His face is rosy with life,
His words pick up my broken pieces,
He cherishes those scraps,
He shows his father,
“Look what I found Father, isn’t it beautiful!”
His robes shimmer with blood as he moves,
He sits and listens to me,
He knows pain,
He knows me,
He is all I see,
I embrace new horizons and find solace in my thoughts,
This new love fills my vessels,
It jumps off my lips and pumps through my legs,
I’m his messenger and his truth is my letter,
He breathes life into me,
My cup is overflown and my love now pours into others,
My purpose is clear and my mission is evident,
As time treks on his light shines brighter,
I’m walking now,
All I see is him,
He is my way out.
