I recently read a quote from Rich Villodas: “The Word became flesh and dwelled among us. The Word didn’t become a religious system. The Word didn’t become a theological checklist. The Word didn’t become a political movement. The Word didn’t become an ecstatic experience. The Word became flesh. Loving embodied existence.”
The Highest King became like us. Just to come close. Just to know and be known. Just to show us what He is really like. Just to identify with our weakness and our suffering. Just so that we would know - really know, because we've seen with our own two eyes - that we are not alone.
If being human was good enough for Jesus, then it has to be good enough for us, too. He is a Leader who did not come with status, influence, and reach. He is a Master who did not come with servants. He is a King who did not come independently with strength and power. The Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace...came to us. In the vulnerable form of a baby.
If Jesus - the one whom everything is made through - was content in his tent of humanity, then we can be, too. Let Jesus's humanity be a reminder to us that we don't have to be superheroes. Just humans. And He is not merely settling for us as we are, but He is well pleased.
