28/2/2024: I learnt how to do proper research and make organized presentations. I enjoyed collaborating with my group mates; we all brought different ideas. To improve, they could have let the entire table of 5 be in the group instead of just 3, as it would have allowed everyone to contribute more effectively. In a nutshell, today was a fun astronomy lesson filled with new knowledge and teamwork.
6/3/2024: I learnt how to present correctly and enjoyed watching others present today. It was fascinating to see the different styles and topics. I also learned many interesting facts, such as that Jupiter's moons can support life and that there may be much extraterrestrial life. To improve, we could have kept quieter during others' presentations, listened to our classmates more actively, and put more effort into our presentations. Overall, it was a stimulating session.
27/3/2024: Today, I learnt about all the planets in the solar system and what makes each one unique. I also discovered many interesting facts, such as why Pluto is no longer classified as a planet. To improve, the presentation could have included a little more information and could have slowed down a bit to allow us to absorb everything. All in all, today was a very informative session packed with planetary knowledge.
3/4/2024: I learnt about some trigonometry functions today, which have real-world applications, and I also delved into the Kepler Laws and Newton's contributions to astronomy. (Sorry for the lousy phrasing in this entry; it was a bit rushed). To improve, they could have given us some more information and maybe even some examples to practice. In conclusion, I found spherical trigonometry to be very difficult, but it's a crucial part of understanding astronomy.
17/4/2024: I learnt about how rockets work, the different fuels available, and the fascinating history of rockets. We also learnt about many failures and successes of Soviet and American missiles, which provided a deeper context for current space exploration efforts. I wished we could've played an activity today, but it was hectic, and we had no time for that. Overall, today was okay, but I would have liked more hands-on learning experiences.
24/4/2024: I had the opportunity to learn about binary star systems today. It was an interesting topic, but they didn't let us use Google Docs to take notes, and the pacing was a bit fast for me to keep up. It would be good if they shared the slides with us afterwards as well. What was most fun was that they let us play Blooket and interact with the universe simulator, which allowed us to apply what we learned in a fun way. All in all, this was a very fascinating lesson that sparked my curiosity.
8/5/2024: I learnt about radio waves and antennae, and we even got to play with a walkie-talkie, which was really exciting. The hands-on experience helped solidify my understanding of the concepts discussed. However, we could have extended the lesson a little instead of skipping through some topics too quickly. This could have allowed for more discussion and questions, enhancing our comprehension of the subject matter.
10/7/2024: Today, I learnt about galaxies and how they form, alongside other related concepts. However, some valuable time was wasted because people struggled to get into the reflection site, causing delays that interrupted the flow of the lesson. I think better organization could improve this aspect in the future to maximize our learning experience.
17/7/2024: I learnt about star masses and luminosities, along with listening to a speech that presented very insightful information. However, they didn't allow us to take notes during the speech, making remembering everything challenging. Additionally, we could have done a quiz at the end to test what we learned, making it more engaging and proactive.
31/7/2024: In today's lesson, we focused on the concept of time and listened to two rather boring speeches. Unfortunately, we weren't allowed to take notes, which further compounded the difficulty in retaining that information. To make matters worse, I got kicked out of the Kahoot game because my name was deemed "weird," which felt frustrating. In conclusion, today's lesson was worse than average, and I hope for more engaging activities next time.
31/7/2024: We explored accretion today and enjoyed participating in a Kahoot game where I won a KitKat (thank goodness it wasn't expired). After that, we went to join the Sec 2s, but unfortunately, we did nothing other than sit in a chair and stare blankly at a wall, which felt unproductive. I was hoping for more dynamic activities to keep our energies up.
14/8/2024: We played Universe Sandbox and did a fun Kahoot game. We also learnt about nuclear physics, but the pacing was slow, sometimes making it a bit boring. Speeding the lesson slightly could keep everyone more engaged and energize the class atmosphere.
11/9/2024: I learnt how to use the Kerbal Space Program today; it was the first fun lesson in a very long time! I had so much fun creating my own rocket designs while learning about their components and how rockets work. The lesson's interactive nature helped me grasp the concepts better.
8/1/2025: We revisited galaxies and planets in today's lesson while engaging in a Kahoot game. They finally allowed us to take notes with our Macs, which is a significant improvement from last year, making it easier to follow along and remember key points.
15/1/2025: In today's lesson, we focused on the Earth and that it is made of many layers (core, mantle, crust), along with the layers of its atmosphere, plate tectonics, and seafloor spreading, among other things. We also learnt some fun facts about the Earth, such as its magnetic fields and how they affect our planet.
22/1/2025: We explored the planets today (Venus, Mars, Jupiter, etc.) and engaged in a Blooket game, but unfortunately, I kept getting nothing in return for my efforts, so I gave up halfway even though I got all the answers correct. It was disheartening, but I still enjoyed learning about the planets.
12/2/2025: Today we focused on craters and watched some funny presentations arguing why we should change the planet names from mythological gods (which, honestly, we definitely should). After that, we did a Blooket game, but someone was hacking, which made it quite chaotic. At the end, someone misclicked and accidentally kicked me out of the game :despair:
19/2/2025: Today we learnt about planets's rings and some dwarf planets and launched water rockets. At first, launching rockets was fun until people from Gresham's broke the pump, then the bottle exploded splashing me 😭. Anyways we learnt that Saturn has 1 broad flat ring with particles the size of basketballs to tennis balls. We also learnt about Pluto which has 5 moons, including Charon which is special because it's half the size of Pluto and orbits facing it. Literally every time I hear about Jupiter it has more moons than the previous time 💀
Some questions they tell us to put:
Q: How do you make the rocket go further?
A: Get the angle to around 45 degrees
Q: How does the amount of water in the rocket affect its flight?
A: More water makes the rocket heavier and the base will droop down making it fly lower
Q: How does air pressure affect launching the rocket?
A: More air pressure blah blah
Q: What is Newton’s Third Law of Motion, and how does it apply to the rocket launch?
A: Uh
26/2/2025: Today we listened to a talk on space weather by Dr. Poh Gang Kai. Today we learnt that there are many types, like solar flares. Solar wind is plasma continuously flowing from the Sun, and is blocked by Earth's magnetic field. He also talked about satellites such as the ISS and some Starlink stuff. He showed us a recording of a solar storm filmed by a satellite orbiting the sun. The talk was interesting and I learned a lot and I hope to get more people like Dr Poh to give us talks like these. We even got dismissed early yay!!!!
5/3/2025: Today we listened to R. Advaith summarise all we learnt in term 1. It was very interesting as we went through many different things such as comets, planets, the sun etc. There were even some questions that were interactive. Today was an enjoyable lesson EXCEPT the fact that he said I couldn't read the wikipedia on the roche limit while others were watching skibidi toilet on tiktok 😠 but that's just a nitpick and the whole lesson was really good overall. Filler text filler text to add more length. To improve, I think Advaith could allow us to take notes on our LD, as it would be boring if we just sat there staring at him talk over and over oand over. From this point onwards, it would be text text. Anyways, uh, the lesson was nice ok they said I can escape now goodbye bis uberuberuberuberuberubermorgen
12/3/2025: Today we played Universe Sandbox. THIS WAS THE MOST FUN LESSON YET we learnt about how to make stars and view its habitable zones and stuff. we placed a planet and i made it uranium-green and i even made some moons and rings for it. Then we watched other people present about their taper fade planets. unfortunately, we didnt win :despair: all in all today was VERY FUN
26/3/2025: Today we were in the lecture theater and we were learning about logarithms and trigonometry and whatnot. We went through some Astrigue things &c and also learnt limits. But basically all we did today was go through equations THAT WERE FOR SEC 3 AND 4 and they said we still had to learn it anyways even though we were sec 2 so uhh in actuality nothing really was done today
2/4/2025: Today we watched a video of Gavriel yap about equations and with the whatsapp notifications at 101% volume, making us not able to hear clearly. Then we did a paper of which there were too many latin words that i wouldnt have known if i didnt do my daily duolingo. apparently we could discuss with groupmates but SOMEONE didnt allow that, so we probably got everything wrong.
9/4/2025: Today we had a guest from NUSH that scored first in some competition, and we watched him talk about stars and fusion and classification a
16/2/2025: Today we learnt about galaxies, specifically the Milky Way. We learnt that it is a barred spiral galaxy and it will merge into Andromeda, out closest galaxy, in 4.5 billion years. We also watched a bright side clickbait video about black holes. After that, we played a quiz and we won by a landslide (90 points!!!!!). Then we played ksp but my mac ran out of battery (sad) this lesson was very fun ok bye
30/4/2025: we learnt about galaxies and made a presentation about the expansion about the universe. ok i enjoyed making the slides aand i think theres nothing to be improved because this is peak cca :fire: can we have more ball throwing next lesson
7/5/2025: Today we played the National Medals gravity simulator thing yet again, but today I made a binary star system that didnt implode like a submersible in the Atlantic. Then we learnt about quasars and black holes. Fun fact: Sanath was eating biscuits in the toilet. anyways we played blooket and i won!!
14/5/2025: Today we learnt about galaxies and how the milky way will collide with andromedia in a few billion years and it will be called milkdromeda, sad that the earth would be gone and dead by then. halfway through we had to go out of the room because of a photo thing or something so we had to go to s1-01 classroom. THE HORRORS THE CHAIRS HAVE SEEN :sob: THEYRE BROKEN WHAT HAVE THE SEC 1S BEEN DOING WITH THE CHAIIRRRSS ok but the lesson was really fun
23/7/2026: Today we learnt about the Doppler shift for the 6th to 7th time. We also played a board game that no one knew how to play so it was just a free-for-all gambling with black magic and turtles. At one point, someone took the board and claimed Mars and the moon. (definitely not me) zander needs to learn how to write lambda and delta properly,,,
