COLOR THEORY

Introduction to Color Theory

In this unit, we will learn the basics of the color wheel. Students will create their own color wheel for reference, and complete a project that demonstrates their understanding of color schemes. Both 7th and 8th grade art students will use the same rubric, notes and practice color wheel. 8th grade will create mix paint to create a color wheel that shows tints, shades, and tones.

Create a Color Wheel

After taking focused notes on the Color Theory Prezi, please fill out this color wheel, paying careful attention to accuracy. This will be your guide to color schemes as you complete your project.

7th grade Project: Kings and Queens of Color Theory

To demonstrate understanding of color schemes, 7th graders will create a drawing inspired by playing card kings, queens, and jacks. Begin by drawing in pencil, breaking down the image into simplified shapes and lines. Outline in sharpie, then color using ONE COLOR SCHEME of your choice. Stick to your color scheme! :)
